I traded in a car worth $29k, leased a 24 prime XSE stickered at 40k through Ally. I paid off the lease in one month.

After dealer discount off of MSRP and lease cash of $6200, I ended up paying about $31,000 total plus tax. Process was pretty painless.

Highly recommend leasing and then immediately paying off.

Was your Prius Prime XSE discounted because it was a 2024 Model bought in 2025? Too bad Toyota didn't have the lease cash offer in early 2023. I was checking on the Lexus N350 Plug-In and Lexus is offering $7500 lease cash and they require 2 lease payments before a payoff will be accepted.

I got about $2500 off sticker, and yes, I purchased a 2024 model in March 2025. Even if you have to make two lease payments, that should be ok.

Some states (including TX where I live) are 'double taxation' states where you pay sales tax on the entire transaction twice - once for leasing, and then once again when purchasing the lease. However, since I traded in a car worth $29k, my taxes due on the lease transaction were negligible. I paid taxes on the sale price ($27k) when buying out the lease. Bottom line: trading in a car on a lease is a good way to minimize double taxation in those states.
