The engineer who hid the driver's side axle behind the subframe and put ribs of aluminum around the axle so you can't use a normal puller, I hope gets forever wet socks. I managed to somehow mess up, what I think is the output shaft seal? Trying to use a crowbar to get it out. So now I'm going to have to give Toyota probably $300 of my hard earned money to put a new axle in (I have the new axle).
All you need is a lift and a long thick crowbar. Any mechanical shop would do it. Why do you need a dealer?
This thread helped me a lot when I was dealing with a stuck axle. You actually use the axle itself as a slide hammer. Works great, especially when you plan to replace the axle anyway. CV axle stuck in transmission? | PriusChat
Well it's day 2. I'm currently on a loaner. They are having to drop the subframe to get more leverage. They said there is a risk of damaging the transmission from the force. They said if this doesn't work, only other option is completely replacing the transaxle.
You weren't able to try the vice grip, axle hammer trick? If their plan is to replace the transaxle, then they should continue trying to remove the axle until destruction occurs.
