Hey, I just replaced my 12V with OEM TrueStart AGM and the car starts, hurray. This tube doesn’t seem to plug into anywhere. I believe I’m also missing a piece of plastic down here because my “floor” next to the battery looks different from Nutzaboutbolts’s. So I don’t have that hole that his tube is plugged into. I have attached a screenshot from his video and a picture of my 12V. I believe the previous 12v (3rd party now ~7 years old) also left this tube around when my dad changed it, but he doesn’t remember. Should I plug this into anywhere? Or am I good to go? Thanks in advance edit: Actually I believe where I currently put the bar covering the battery is where the tube should go, but I’m not sure if the bar screw can go down to that second hole. Will try.
If you look at the first photo, you'll see where the tube goes. The 2nd photo show how NOT to connect the brace....
It seems I don’t have the hole where the tube goes, and I don’t have the hole the brace is supposed to screw into. See pic edit: added another screenshot from the video. Mine doesn’t look like that for sure. I think I need that piece of floor to get that hole where the brace should go.
???????????????? I believe the brace is in the correct location. The tube goes in the hole next to it. Wait.... look to the side of the battery, straight down. I think that there is a hole there for it.
To clarify: the brace is hanging in space right now. There is air below the screw, I didn’t screw it into anything. I tried pushing the tube plug into that hole, and the plug is too big for it. The tube doesn’t reach that second hole to the right.
I believe there is a how on the side, to the left of the battery, as you are looking at it. Along the part of the car body underneath the corner of the battery
it sounds like things were modified for the non oem battery. it might be easier to remove the battery and start over. the tube vents the battery gasses outside the cabin.
I will check for the hole at the bottom later. I’m not sure what else there is to try again. The new OEM battery fits in the tray, clamps stay on, the brace goes where it has been previously. I know the brace should go somewhere else but I don’t have that place. I think at some point my dad took out the “flooring” (?) there for some purpose and didn’t put it back, then connected the brace like that anyway. He doesn’t remember anymore though.
I have attached a picture of my under-trunk area and a screenshot of NAB’s. My dad, who bought it new 14 yrs ago, did not notice this when he purchased the car. (Not sure how he would’ve known either, this was a brand new car on the first year of release.) Also there has never been any work done to metal or structure in that area, he didn’t have to modify anything when he changed the 12V seven years ago, and he has no memory of this tube or where he may have put it back then. He also confirms the brace has always been secured diagonally across the battery. The tube reaches the hole next to the hole where the brace is, but there is no hole underneath leading to somewhere else, just flat metal. There is no hole next to the bottom or sides of the battery. There is a small hole in the back of the battery compartment on a piece of metal, forgot to take a picture. But that piece just ends inside this battery area, I think that hole is to attach something else. Putting the tube there doesn’t lead the tube away from this battery compartment at all. I’ve sort of tucked the tube into the compartment for now, but even if loose it doesn’t have much room to move. My dad suspects this area was altered by the dealership when brand new, and thus lost the original brace hole and the tube hole. This has created no noticeable issues in 14 yrs 291k miles. Just very strange why this area was modified brand new in the first place.
There was clearly body work done on your car with the raised mounting moved. Somebody painted over the seam sealer after adding more. Op's car Factory setup above The raised mount in the op's car was rotated 90 degrees as well. I wonder if somebody poked a hole in from the bottom while jacking it up or lowering it. The following area in the op's car looks repaired as well.
The hole for the vent tube is likely under that relocated battery bracket seat. The bracket is a bonehead design btw, totally intolerant of any variation in battery height. Night-and-day difference from the usual threaded rods with hooks at the bottom.
Maybe showing photo's of two different vehicles, and not explaining??? It sure makes it harder to give a good answer to your question. I just wonder which one is for the car in question???
