I am in Houston, Prius 2008, 141000 miles. I had my car oil changed at midas, after that I drove 3 miles and my engine got shut off. All the warning lights started coming up i tried turning off and on several times but engine would not come up. (When we start the car 0 mph does not come up)

I got it towed to one mechanic place and they found some error codes as attached. And I tried checking the oil level it was above the high bar as you can see in picture. As per the codes, mechanic said my hybrid battery is down and that is the reason my engine is not starting. So, they will need to change hybrid battery for 2400$.

12V battery is fine. There was one error of low fuel and I tried putting 3-4 gallon of fuel as well.

My doubt is oil level is above the high point. And maybe people who changed the oil put different catagory of oil but bill says 5w30.

What is the brake light suggest and what can be the problem? Any help will be appreciated. markup_1000032975.jpg PXL_20250627_213729637.jpg markup_1000033116.png markup_1000033114.png Screenshot_20250703-140345.png markup_1000033117.png

The first thing that should be done is to remove and clean the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. The second thing is to clean the throttle body and then disconnect the 12v battery for a few minutes and reconnect. Then try to start the car.

Midas has nothing to do with this.

this is a shot in the dark diagnosis, if you have a capable scanner for Prius (Autel MaxiAP or others) clear the codes first, it will at least clear the hybrid battery error temporarily. The codes indicate issue with the engine not able to start and several tries probably drained the HV battery.. note that since the engine is running the HV battery is not charged.

If you don't have a scanner then you're going to have an expensive time with the shop replacing components.. disconnecting the battery doesn't clear the codes completely.

plus 1 on the Autel... It is a necessary tool. Also do a search here for hybrid coolant pump. Under the hood open the cap with the car in READY mode. You should see the pink fluid swirling around....if you don't your pump failed.. This happens about 100k miles.
It is located below the drivers side headlight..you can reach down and feel it as well to see if it is running.[IMG] It looks like this. If it is dead BUY A NEW ONE
    here is a video.

from a dealership. $170 last time I checked.
the ones on Amazon for $67 are JUNK!!!!. Lots of you tube videos on changing it out. I'd remove the drivers headlight. It is way easier.Good luck.
