Would you say that the parts washer includes using a pressure washer by chance? I'm considering getting one for this purpose.

A shop's parts washer is a tank of solvent with a pump that can be closed. A little more protection. IMG_8688.jpeg

Hey @Mendel Leisk, so after doing some research, apparently I found out that Dollar General sells their own version of OxiClean for $5. The main ingredient, which is sodium percarbonate, is stupid expensive and thus why OxiClean is so expensive. I also found a post where it talks about mixing water with mean green and oxiclean in order to get the thicker stuff out.

If your egr cooler is totally clogged, then soaking it doesn't do much, as the cleaner/solvent/lye, etc can't even get to all the stuff in the cooler passages.

As mentioned above, you've got to clear some of the passages first, even if it leaves a lot of material still clinging to the walls. At least the cleaning solution can get at it throughout the entire cooler.

Ok so latest update. So it does look like you're right in terms of soaking it doesn't really do much. Do you think using a pressure washer will help attack much at all or is there another thing I can possibly do to get better results?

Oven cleaner, pressure washer, oven cleaner, pressure washer.

Unless you have a few years before you need to use it.... Then you can let it soak in drain cleaner,
    or something similar...

in the video (currently editing) I soak my cooler in 50/50 purple power and water over night, then pressure wash it with maximum force and it cleaned up the cooler nicely. (y)

It must not have been very dirty or caked up then.
It's the first time I've heard that worked!

My spare one is kinda caked, I'm going to try the drain cleaner, when I get around to putting it
in a small enough container.... It will be next year or longer before I'll be cleaning the egr system
    again.

Purple power is pretty strong, my cooler was caked up. I couldn’t see through it. Give it a try

The 2 I have had been clogged, but the pressure washer cleared then, and the oven cleaner
cleaned them. I had to use the oven cleaner a few times to clean it up.

But when I went to clear one this time, it didn't so such a good time. Which tells me it's carboned up .
I used the oven cleaner once, because that's all I had in the can. It did okay, but not like before.
But I did go longer on this cooler before changing.

So I bought the oven cleaner. Just been too lazy to soak it.:oops:
Since I've driving 75% less than I was, there's no hurry.

How quick/easy it is to clean depends on how long it's been used, and if it's just soot, or hardened up
    like some people run into...

when I was taking the cooler out after soaking it over night, the carbon was still in there wet. You definitely need a strong pressure washer to push all of the carbon out of the cooler since regular pressure from a garden hose won’t do it.

and the cooler still look clogged? Try purple power but concentrated and soak over night. My fluid when I drained it was dark and dirty.

I didn't have much oven cleaner left, that's probably why it didn't work.
I didn't put much effort into it because I knew I had plenty of time.
I've already bought it, so I'll try it. And I also bought more oven cleaner. I know that works!
I've been using it since the early 80's...

ah ok, yeah I try to soak the whole cooler to the top. I’m sure you’ll get rid of the carbon once you do it (y)

Yes, I pressure wash the cooler, back flush it first. The spray both ends with oven cleaner.
Let it soak in for a minute or so, they spray again, several times. Then I let it sit for 15 minutes while
I do other things, like clean the manifold.... then spray again.... Usually about 45 minutes to an hour
of soaking.... Then I pressure wash it. Then repeat... until the water is more or less clear.
    I concentrate on the edges...

I'm curious to see how well the drain cleaner works.... probably like the oven cleaner...

As indicated before, a totally clogged egr needs mechanical clearing first, chemicals second.

oh, you spray and soak it? I submerge my cooler in fluids over night lol. It’s better this way than spray and let it soak…

No, it doesn't, take mechanical help....

    I didn't have a spare cooler the first 2 or 3 times.
I cleaned up the spare cooler, so I just swoped them out, much quicker!

I just want to try the drain cleaner this time. Then I can just let it soak for a few weeks
    if needed....
