Hey all so I just bought myself a nice used pressure washer. Tomorrow I'm gonna go get some pump oil for it and then finish cleaning it up before I put it all back together and then test it. If it runs like it's supposed to, then I'll spray the hell out of the cooler to see what I can get out of it. Also per Nutz's comment, I'll go get myself some of that purple power stuff to attack it as well.

make sure to soak the whole EGR cooler over night in 50/50 purple power and water. Then use the red nozzle to spray in there. I sprayed the front and back of the EGR cooler for a while and carbon flows out.

#4 stopper in the smaller end, prop in corner of laundry sink, pour in lye solution, takes about a cup.

you may need to preliminarily open up some passages with a wire.

Hey there, just so you know Google has been very vague in terms of a lye solution. All they're telling me is that it's a mix of NOH, but that's it. Then it goes about suggesting different brands. So far all I've used is Five Star PBW and now im currently on Purple Power. However, I still need to get some oil for the pressure washer before I put it all back together.

Lye is Sodium Hydroxide, or in chemical nomenclature NaOH.

Click on the link “lye” in post #45.

I’ve noticed lye, aka sodium hydroxide (NaOH) sales are somewhat restricted in the States (also but to a lesser degree in Canada), but still available mail order. It used to be readily available locally through grocery/hardware stores, but not now.

Google lye solution instructions and cautions; it is a strong caustic, the opposite of an acid but just as dangerous.
