First of all hi and thanks for any further help .

so here is how the story goes this is not my car it’s my parents who are in their mid 80’s it needed some strut work so they parked it over the winter . Until I could get time to change out the struts . When I went to work on it the 12 volt battery was dead(2 volts dead). I charged the battery till the battery charge shut [email protected]

I reinstalled the battery started and moved the car to garage and did the strut change everything went fine took it out for a ride around the county block 5 plus miles every was great brought it back parked it in the garage next day my dad went to take the car out it would not start so they took the other car.
When I checked the 12 battery it was dead it showed 11 volt but only 6volts under a load so I took the battery out told they to get a new battery . The dead battery triggered lights on the dash.
My dad installed the new battery and the car ran fine other the the lights on on the dash. They dove the car I would guess about another 50 miles here and there doing this and that ( getting it lined ect ect).
Then they were going to bigger town to do some shopping being my dad the lights bugged him .He stop in a the local town to the big box auto store to have them check for codes which they did and cleared without giving him any kind of printout.
After they cleared them codes the car will not accelerate the car only runs about 6~8 mph it seems to be running on battery power when the gas engine should start the car shutters and just slows down to the 6~8 speed and is only running on the high voltage battery .Which kinda baffles me because when it back it out of the garage the gas engine starts and runs.
I have a cheap obs2 scanner and it only shows to codes P0441&P0445

I found a fairly large hole in the vacuum line to the pcv valve and I’m pretty sure the gas cap is bad..the vacuum line is fixed and a new oem Toyota cap is coming this week. The car has approximately 120k on it
I’ve tried searching the forums for days similar problems with little luck on my part I’m sure its on here somewhere if I only knew what I’m looking for

you need to read the trouble codes

he got the trouble codes, has to do with his EGR and EVAP system due to the vacuum hose leak and possible gas cap?

I think those are his issues currently so the codes will stay, unless he fixes the issue… no update yet so who knows

The fix as in the vacuum hose on the purge valve (I know I said pvc but it was the purge valve)and the vacuum hose … the answer is no the gas cap is just now sitting front of me it just came in and I just got home.. I don’t think the gas cap would keep the engine from starting when driving

It’s not that cheap of scanner it should be able to do something it has quite a few functions including live data

to be honest me not fully understanding the full functions is most likely more the issue than the scanner

Vacuum hose and gas cap made no difference in the gas motor starting when driving.

rescanned the car 21 module memory (8dts)
    Engine and ect (2)
    P0441
    P0455

    Smart key(3)
    B2784 antenna coil open/short ( 2 times)
U0155 lost communication with instrument panel cluster
    Tire pressure monitor (3)
    Transmitter id2 not received
    Transmitter Id 4 not received
C2175 vehicle speed or rissi signal error

When I switched to ev mode it said “ ev mode not available “
When I ran the hybrid battery scanner it shows all 14 cells @15.5 or 15.6
Power mode made no difference in trying to accelerate

Looks like more issues than just the 2 codes you posted…

time to start fixing those codes

Which vacuum hose on the purge valve had the leakage. The one between the purge valve and intake manifold or the other one that connects to a steel pipe near the EGR valve. Both of those vacuum hoses deteriorate over time and need to be replaced when they get to be about 13 to 14 years old.

Based on the P0441 and P0455 codes, you still have a vacuum hose leak somewhere.

Unless it's a plug in version, that's the normal response to switching to EV mode. There are a lot of limitations, including that the ICE engine must be completely warmed up, or so many other limitations that the EV mode is useless.

The Power mode doesn't change the thing into a rocket (nor does the ECO mode all that much). The change is more subtle. It's more like a slight adjustment to the throttle response to the accelerator pedal. This is also overridden when you're pressing the gas pedal more. If you're not the normal driver of the car, and even if you are, it's doubtful you'll be able to tell that much. Maybe just that the car is more likely to be running the ICE engine.

The loss of communication sounds like it's a serious issue, but maybe it's a holdover from when the accessory battery was low. When that happens, the car enters a mode where the various computers repeatedly crash and restart. I hate to say it, but maybe clear those codes and see if they come back. The usual suspects for communications issues are blown fuses powering the ECUs, corrosion in the wires and connectors powering the ECUs, corrosion in the communication wires and connectors between the ECUs, and corroded grounds.
