I recently purchased a used 2014 Prius 2 for my child and it was immediately evident that the stock dash speakers are pretty horrible. I have a 2015 Jeep that came with the base audio system and did a full aftermarket system with the exception of using the 3.5" Alpine speakers Jeep uses in its upgraded system. After watching the below video 10 years ago that went into detail about the Alpine system I figured I would give the 3.5" drivers a shot:

I've now used these 3.5" drivers in numerous installs as they will outperform just about any aftermarket 3.5" co-ax. They really are shockingly good and a simple 100 mfd cap will protect them well enough as this little drive has a 2.5mm xmax. I reused the wiring harness off the stock speakers (bypassing the stock 6.8 mfd cap) to make things plug and play. I had to enlarge one mounting tab on each speaker to accommodate the stock bolt. I did have to screw into the soft plastic for the other mounting tab. I didn't have to shave down any of the underside of the stock grills or anything. The sound improvement is tremendous. The speaker part number is 68223392AA. You can find them for ~$40/pair on eBay. Luckily, Jeep has continued to used these for a really long time.
