Valvoline restore and protect is one of those products that is being talked about all over the internet. Just look at the forum Bob is the Oil Guy, or plug it into YouTube to see the countless videos of people trying it out for themselves. I don’t think it can work for anyone’s car, especially with damage to the cylinder walls, but there are a ton of success stories out there to read. If anyone had discount codes or links to get commission I’d be very skeptical. Anyway just dumped out my Mobil 1 to add the R&P.

It "might" work if the engine is newer, low mileage, to help keep it clean.
But, since synthetic oil is already cleaner than regular oil, 99% of the engines will already
be clean. When I changed the head gasket I would wipe the light film off the head with my
    fingers.

I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it, as I knew the oil rings on mine were already sticking.
If it helped, great, if not, no biggie.

But there claims it will 100% clean all the old oil deposits in 4 oil changes, are simply not true.
Perhaps I should start looking for a lawyer willing to sue them???

The thing I hate about corporate advertising is the tricky wording they use. Valvoline claims “up to 100%”. Well up to includes anything from 0-100% lol.

MY experience is to treat their claims as nothing but balloon juice.

The way they get out of their claims holding any weight is that “up to” because they aren’t stating your pistons “will be 100% clean” they are stating your pistons will be cleaned “up to 100%” which if it did 0% cleaning that’s still technically part of their claim. Besides that I was very skeptical of this oil at first, but it’s been around long enough for lots of people trying it and lots of real reviews stating it reduced their oil consumption. I have yet to see anyone tear down an engine before and after though. For me it’s the same price as the other top tier oils at Walmart so why not. If it doesn’t work it’s not like I spent a ton of extra money vs what I was already going to spend.

A good place to learn more about VRP is on Lake Speed, Jr's You Tube channel The Motor Oil Geek.

I put Valvoline R&R in my daughter's 2021 Palisade about a month ago and she's on vacation, driving to Texas then Alabama then home. She'll put about 3,000 on it and I'll change it and see how dirty it looks...I suspect it'll be as black as night even with only 3,000 miles....we'll see!!

Yep our old Chrysler caravan's oil seemed to be dirty after driving it out of the garage! I always thought the engine would be the first to go but, nope, that thing kept going until the transmission gave up the ghost at around 120,000 (I had given it to my sister). My first and last Chrysler!! (Seats were comfy and A/C worked great, everything else was sub-par.) I talked her into replacing it with a Toyota or a Honda so she got a Honda CRV....gosh that was about 15-years ago....still going strong!

I tried the Restore and Protect at the recommendation of a friend in my 2013 Prius V Three. Found out I was leaking oil out the drainplug (due to an overtightening). Had to have that fixed 50 miles after the oil change. Drained all the oil out and put in a new plug patch, then readded the Restore and Protect just the other day.

About the oil with 50 miles on it. We put some of it into a water bottle and could not see through the oil at all, it was completely opaque. At just 50 miles driven. It is clearly cleaning something, for sure.

Already I am noticing a smoother, quieter engine. It did feel rougher until it warmed up after each oil change, but it definitely feels smoother.

Mileage at purchase was 144k, now at 207k. Oil changes were pretty consistent at 5000 (mostly) to 7000 since then with 0W20SAE. Service records indicate oil changes were conducted at 5-10k intervals over the first 144K, plugs at 105K and fluids and other consumables maintained properly.

Started noticing oil burn around 195k, but this might have been the drain plug leak (not sure). We will see.

    Usually that happens with normal
Driving, but inside a garage? That’s a garage is sooo polluted then!
