And Tesla died in 1943. This hasn't been a setback for the marketing experts.

Long gone and turned into a munitions factory during the war.
I understand India has a competing "go-kart" from Tata motors, but it can't squeeze by NTSB standards. FWIW; I don't think the Yugo would either.....:(

Let's not forget that there are some cars made by companies that are already established in the USA which were discontinued in the USA but not from production.

It is possible that Mitsubishi could bring in more Mirages, Toyota could bring in the current-generation Aqua & Yaris, and the hybrid version of the Corolla Hatchback.

I'm sure there are similar Hondas and Nissans though I don't know their lines as well.

GM could probably go back to the Daewoo well.

Not hard to picture VW pimping more golfs and maybe the Polo.

It's GM Korea now, or more accurately, it is again. It was first so before becoming part of Daewoo. Before GM's first involvement, it had partnerships with Toyota. Daewoo Motors - Wikipedia

The Sonic/Aveo was a GM Korea design, making the Bolt a product of the Daewoo well. Its drive train and battery was mostly LG as well.

If you dig into Tesla’s second-quarter earnings report, there is a line showing Tesla’s regulatory credits dropped by half to $439 million from the same quarter last year. Even in the first quarter, Tesla still collected $595 million from competitors with combustion lineups.

If history is predictive, this is how the sociopath in Chief coils up to strike his next victim. Former Trump fixer, Cohen is the example.

After leftists shot up & burned down cars, chargers, & stores, it's unlikely any relationship will be much more than covert.

paraphrasing trunk, 'people say i'm going to pull Eon's government contracts, and i want his business to fail.
that's not true, i want all american businesses to succeed.'

i'm pretty sure he is the one who threatened Eon with canceled contracts.
could be that now that the bbb passed, he isn't concerned

Whoa Hoss! Leaf looking, gun grabbing, fuzzy minded, Prius friendly, "leftists shot up"?

As the only Dixiecrat here, I might have to deal with a right-wing, anti-EV, road rager. But I sure won't be wasting varmint rounds shooting at a car.

I am cautiously looking forward to all nonsense government credits evaporating.
Quite frankly to he_ _ with the government trying to influence me to buy what they want me to.

I think electric cars have advanced to the point they are competitive with gas models - in some cases like the Bolt they may be a more economical buy. Depending on where you live electric cars can be more economical to operate and maybe even more dependable. Electric cars can stand on their own.

Also believe alternative energy solar, wind etc can make good economic sense as investments and reliable energy sources.
I am not so sure they need the government to step in and prop them up financially.
If I were a younger person I would probably spring for a solar system for us but that horse may be out of the barn for someone my age to ever see a realistic payback.
Still, it is an intriguing idea to have my own power system, and I may yet do that.

I think part of the problem currently with electric vehicles may be their volume grew too fast and outpaced the infrastructure needed for them poisoning the well of public perception on their viability.
In hindsight maybe the government should have never gotten involved with carrot and stick incentives but allowed electric vehicles to grow their market share at their own pace - forcing them to make their own standalone case for economy, convivence and viability. That slower measured growth may have allowed infrastructure to keep pace, encouraged economical product development and innovation in this sector.

Good riddance to government interference and hello to innovation, cost conscious product development and a cleaner environment based on its own merits and advantages for us all not based on artificial stimulation and temporary factors that are not sustainable, or transient political monkeyshines.

Just a reminder that we've been propping up the petroleum industry with tax breaks and other subsidies for 100ish years now.

I haven't heard of any proposal to cut this back at all. It was a bit over $5 trillion a year last time I looked. Funny how nobody's been talking about what that could save us.

The subsidies that have recently been cut are a drop in the bucket compared to the handouts we've been giving to Big Oil- our government is still very much in the business of picking winners & losers even with this latest change.

Respect your opinion and hope you do the same for me.

I have heard that line before but question its argumentative finality as well as some of its veracity.

    Forbes Business:
What Jon Stewart And Others Get Wrong About Big Oil Subsidies
(What Jon Stewart and others get wrong about oil and gas subsidiaries)
""How about we just take $3 billion in subsidies we give to oil and gas companies that turn billions in profits?"
It’s a statement that sounds damning—but is it accurate? While this claim resonates with many, it misrepresents how the oil and gas industry operates in relation to government support. The notion that oil companies receive massive handouts distorts public perception and fuels unnecessary animosity toward the sector. In reality, there is a massive flow of money from these oil companies to federal, state, and local governments—not the other way around."

The Truth About Oil and Gas Subsidies | OilPrice.com

    • "The article explains that oil companies primarily receive tax breaks, not direct subsidies, and these tax breaks are similar to those given to other industries.
    • Oil companies contribute billions of dollars in various taxes and employ millions of people, significantly contributing to the economy.
    • The debate around subsidies should include all energy sectors, including renewable energy, to ensure a fair and balanced approach to energy policy."

I just do not care much for the government sticking its nose in things like this - am not a proponent of Big Government, maybe it is a cultural thing - or how I was raised to be responsible for myself- maybe a personal failing on my part!

Posting this to illustrate there may be two sides to this coin and balanced reasoning require looking at both sides in investigating fairly.

Citing oilprice.com makes it appear that you are quoting the fox on the status of the henhouse, and taking his word for it.

My point here is that the recent elimination of certain energy subsidies does not represent any substantial exit from the business of choosing winners and losers. It wasn't a clean-up. They made one little somewhat-clean spot on an otherwise filthy situation, while acting like it's a big accomplishment.

I like the idea of the government getting their nose out of things like this- now they just need to get the remaining 98% out.

why don't we just eliminate all government subsidies? everyone has their binky, especially congress critters.
trunk is playing to his base, not saving money. the last thing big oil wants is increasing electric car sales

What with oil sales cut off to Europe vis s vis Russia & the Ukraine - the usa has plenty of business picking up the slack. Not thinking the less than the 10% EV drivers are a threat.

Here's a more even-hand approach to this subject. I'm sure those wind mills off the coast of his UK golf courses had nothing to do with his decision. ;):p:eek:
What Jon Stewart And Others Get Wrong About Big Oil Subsidies

Sorry, just realized this was covered in #35
"In reality, there is a massive flow of money from these oil companies to federal, state, and local governments—not the other way around." That reality also follows with renewables, They too create jobs, but require some initial assistance to get off the ground - so current market forces doesn't "kill it in the crib". Oil companies can stand on their own - regulations are in place to prevent over-reach and protect the public well being. Keep in mind that regulations are in place because industries had abused their power in the past - NO-ONE is trying to hold them back. So when government says' we're rolling back regulations, I just roll my eye-ball back - another problem we'll have to deal with in the future. Pity we don't learn or forget our own history.
