Hi All. My 3rd Gen Prius’s alarm has started to go off randomly. Just this morning it went off unprovoked, just as I was going to grab the key fob from the key rack it turned itself off. I was told it went off yesterday as well when I wasn’t around so I unlocked the car so I could start researching this. Then it went off again. A quick search hasn’t found anything yet. It’s a 2010 top level ‘V‘ with both the Navigation and Advanced Technology packages in case this makes any difference to figuring this out. In the meantime is there a fuse or something I can pull to disable the alarm? Thank you for you help. Reposted from Tech forum for lack of help.
You need to figure out which sensor is setting off the alarm - most likely the driver's door switch. Since that's the one used most often.
There is no button rubber insert in your key shell i guess, and the circuit board has oxidized. I recently fixed the same issue. You can download the magnifier app on your phone and use a needle or a sharp pick tool to scrape all the oxidation off the board. After I did that, the problem was solved. When you look at the board you most likely won't see the oxidation until you use the magnifier app.
It’s impossible to steal a turd gen without the fob, just rip the alarm out and drink a cold one after.
So your saying it's the FOB panic button setting off the alarm. That should be easy to check. Either place the FOB in a Fairaday bag or pull the battery out of the FOB or move the FOB into your refrigerator - then reconnect the battery. It shouldn't alarm, since you've removed the signal source, setting off the alarm. In case you haven't figured it out, placing your FOB in the refrigerator blocks the signals being transmitted.
Guys Guys , It looks solved. Tell everyone has this problem Ask them if they park in street. If they say it then its just this problem I was removing every fuse to see if alarm can be stopped. Then land lord came , he is truck driver. he went under front of car and did something and fixed the alarm He is not telling me the secret. if anyone know what he did , i am interested I drove 12 miles and no alarm today.
If it's an after-market alarm - it'll have it's own horn. If it's an OEM alarm your horn isn't going to work.
