( solution added below) 2013 Prius V 95,000 miles - Arizona vehicle, no rain/snow/rust. Frequent wear of rubber parts. Yesterday ( 110º) while driving. and just after crossing over a speed bump at normal speed The Brake, Brake System, Traction Control and ABS icons lit up. Was ¼ mile from home seemed normal operation to driveway. First assumption is a front ( because of traction control) speed sensor Sound like barking up the right tree ? As luck would have it, was returning from having a procedure on dominant hand which will slow me down. What I plan: inspecting fuses & brake fluid level, inspecting wiring, removing and inspecting sensor pick ups for debris. Possible replace sensors. Comments, agree/ disagree welcome from someone who has experienced this or similar thanks, Mike
Could be purely electronic gremlins. I had a ScanGauge constantly connected to OBD, and started getting similar lights, plus what I like to call "work to rule" brakes, ie: they still work, but at first it feels like they're gone, it does take extra effort. This happened about 3 times, took to dealership each time, and with the last instance the mechanic pointed out his techstream connection to the obd kept dropping if he tapped the connection. Suggested I try disconnecting the ScanGauge, see if it helped. It did, problem never returned.
You are only guessing that it is a speed sensor problem. The thing to do is use a scanner to read the trouble codes that the car is trying to tell you about. After you have the trouble codes, you can then plan how to fix the problem. If you do not have a scanner and the warning lights are still on, you can drive the car to an auto parts store that scans the car for free.
Saw this once in winter on our 2012 v Five. Check to see whether any of the wheel speed sensor pigtails are separated or broken. If in doubt, detach and reattach, and if you have dielectric grease place a dab on the outside mating surfaces of each connector before reattaching. Once in summer, too, when I got the full dash holiday light show, accompanied by loss of regen braking, traced to an intermittent connection with a P12 scan gauge. Removed and reattached the scan gauge and all good.
solution: Brake fluid reservoir visibly low I checked with OBD Fusion app and found no codes/ DTC's Added DOT3 brake fluid from low to full mark and reset codes/DTC's with app Lights went off, brakes acted as normal on test drive. a basic case of should have started at the fundamentals... rather than imagining the worst. Part of understanding Toyota architecture Thanks for help and suggestions, Mike
Could be temp issue, and code reset dismissed them. I can’t see brake fluid top up doing it. If your pads are worn it’s normal for brake fluid level to drop accordingly. If and when you replace pads you may need to baste some out.
Were the warning lights on when you scanned with the OBD Fusion app? If so, then you need a better app to read the codes that your car has. Read the first post of this thread, https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3246758 If the brake fluid level was at the low mark, this would not trigger a warning light. You have now cleared the trouble code, so you have no idea what the trouble was with the car. I assume the warning lights will come back again after you drive the car enough. If they do, then use a good scanner to read the codes and stop guessing what the problem is.
