Recently got the P0AA6 code. Watched a youtube video that says you need to get the sub codes. I have a cheapo OBDII scanner ($22) and the Veepeak bluetooth scanner ($32) for the Dr. Prius app and neither read subcodes. What do you guys use for subcodes that isn't $500?
I use a hacked version of Techstream and also the Autel AP200. There are also many other scanners that will give you the sub-code of a trouble code.
Oh the hybrid isolation code first thing use cheapo scanner and clear codes twice back to back . Will the car ready now? Drive it stay close if you're driving okay and then codes . Get out unplug sc comPressor. You're driving in the code hasn't come back cool. Plug the air back up does the car code again if so you isolated to the AC that's one of the subs . The other main one is in HV case open up case look at inside bottom tray see the discoloration? That's battery acid leaking out of modules putting voltage to the battery tray which is secured to your chassis ground which is your 12-volt ground point so you're sending 75 DC volts to your 12 DC volt ground point not cool car doesn't like it that's why everything red won't start the last sub deals with orange wiring between HV batt and back of inverter rare..
There's a guy named Scott floating around here who has the whole manual available online I suggest look into it you have the big bucks for the 5 manual set at 300 plus dollars .
So get this. I cleared the code maybe 5-10 times. I'd clear it to start it, it would run for a few minutes and the code would come back. Couldn't figure out what scanner could to buy that would read sub codes (even contacted some manufacturers and they couldn't tell me). Set up an appt with my trusted mechanic and now the code won't come back. It gets driven 10 miles each way to work every day and is driving like it always has. Can a Prius cure itself of a P0AA6? FYI the other code that I had to fix when the red triangle reared its ugly head had to do with the inverter pump. I did replace the inverter pump. Is it possible the bad pump caused the problem? The P0420 is constantly on so we're not sure how long the inverter pump code had been on.
No it cannot it can be under threshold I guess . But a meter tells ya pretty quick . Google down and dirty test battery isolation fault Prius watch what he does with meter . You will do same . And probably find fault . Then you won't have to really worry about codes you need fix that first.
Well I don't have a scanner that reads the INF codes which is why I started this thread in the first place. If the inverter pump had stopped working could the inverter have over heated and kicked out the P0AA6?
It is very unlikely for an inverter cooling pump failure to cause the P0AA6 code. I recommend the Autel AP200 to read the trouble codes and INF codes. The scanner costs about $60 on Amazon. Read post #37 in this thread for more information about some scanners that were evaluated for functionally with a Gen 2 Prius. https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3290690
