Hello, based on the instruction, I am to 1) Set display to Trip A 2) Turn car off 3) While holding down MPH/KPH button press Power button with foot on brake. Unfortunately, my TRIP button my steering wheel don't work, so theres no way to set it to Trip A or B.
Are there any alternative manual way to reset it?
Are there anything within my car stereo screen that can access a reset?
Are there any device like OBD2 scanner to reset it?
I bought an $80 OBD2 scanner, but it wasn't able to detect any faulty with my steering Wheel issue, even thought my TRIP/ DISPLAY button fail to respond, and that OBD2 Scanner can't remove the maintenance required off.

Does your car have the Touch Tracer feature or not?

Touch Tracer shows you little purple outlines of the steering wheel buttons over the speedometer when you are touching them.

Looking in this wiring diagram screenshot, the Touch Tracer wiring is (*6) and the without-Touch-Tracer wiring is (*7).

In the non-Touch-Tracer version, the TRIP switch simply grounds the combination meter's AU2 input (a black wire) ... I'm guessing through a certain resistance (the detail is cut off the bottom of that screenshot, but I see on another diagram that the MODE button grounds AU2 directly, while all the other buttons that connect to AU2 ground it through different resistances. If you knew the right resistance you could apply it right at the black-wire pin 9 of the connector on the column side of the spiral cable, and that should be the same as pressing the TRIP button.

If you have the Touch Tracer flavor, then the TRIP button is just an input to a microcontroller in the steering wheel and causes a certain message to be sent over the green STRG circuit. That would be harder to spoof. You might just have to replace the spiral cable first (consider an element of required maintenance ;)), and then you'll be able to reset the maintenance required indication.

Try going to an auto parts store. They have a reader that can do it.

Let us know if it works on a gen3. Newer vehicles have different ways to reset the maintenance needed.

Would it be possible to just disable the maintenance alert? Canadian spec 3rd gens are thus, a blessing.

I understand it hijacks some of the display elements too, so both obnoxious and intrusive. Apparently 5th gen Canadian Prius have it now.
