2013 Prius C "check hybrid system"

    No issues with the car until after it sat for several months. I just replaced the 12v battery and received the "check hybrid battery" message/car didn't start. What things can I check myself prior to taking it to the dealer?

    Purchase and use an OBD2 scanner to read the trouble codes. Take a look at this thread, Gen2 OBD2 app review | PriusChat
    Read post #1 and then scroll down to post #37. You want to buy a scanner that can communicate with all the ECUs in the car. I recommend the Autel AP200 scanner. It is an OBD2 Bluetooth dongle, and you install an Autel app on your phone. The Autel AP200 costs about $60 on Amazon.

    yeah you won't get far until somebody does a proper scan of the on-board diagnostics. The thread linked above has lots of great info.

    That Autel is a very good unit, gives you access to all the same stuff the dealer can tell you except you own it forever at about 1/3 the price of a single dealer diagnostic visit.
