I had a plug in pack in the Gen2 I bought from Jason in Oz, 40ah cells, good for around 100kms but restricted to 80km/h on battery only.

The GBS square terminal prismatic cells leaked electrolyte fumes something shocking, I had them out of the Prius in the workshop, along with all the gear involved in its operation, when the workshop burnt down.

I think the Zombie Inverter board upgrade and a decent battery pack would turn a Gen 2 into a great hybrid where the regen wasn't limited to the small traction battery pack capacity, but rather recharging a much bigger battery pack, you still running as a hybrid and the 80km/h speed limit removed by driving MG1 and the motor past 65km/h (roughly 40 mph), still improving fuel economy and performance ..... in a very reliable yet cheap vehicle
