Hybrid Battery Upgrade

There was an upgrade to lithium-ion by Nexpower. This is the same person who developed the Dr. Prius app. He has currently discontinued them due to poor reliability. Lithium ion does not hold up to either high temperature or extreme cold below 30°F. I put a set of them in my daughter's 04 Prius, and it worked wonderfully. The problem is now a year and a half later, and out of warranty. I now have a bad cell, and that cell needs to be replaced and there is no replacement available. Now What! It probably failed due to our cold temperatures here in PA. We get into the single digits in the winter. Lithium-ion does not hold up well to that. Right now, my options are, replace the battery with Nexpower's new sodium-based upgrade for $950, which is a $1000 discount, revert back to a NiMH battery, or last but not least, has anyone on here ever upgraded to this Newpower battery that might have a good block or two sitting around they need to get rid of? That's my experience with Lithium-ion. Great batteries but poor reliability.

 

I have seen used NexPower Lithium-Ion blades (modules) listed on ebay for sale. You could buy one and replace the bad module, and it may work for a while. Then another module will go bad, and you are in the same predicament. So eventually, you will need to go back to the OEM standard battery or take a chance on the Sodium-Ion battery and hope you do not get burned like you did with the Lithium-Ion battery.

 

The OEM has continually proven that it can last at LEAST 10 years and operate flawlessly in all environments. Therefore, it is not an option.
Go with the sodium, so if or when it fails in less than 10 years you can feel like you've been f'ed twice by the hype(sters). Maybe OEMs will still be available or QuantumScape will have DIY solid state modules available.
