Tl/Dr: 2012 Prius V. 1) Is inaccurate and random air vent mode selection and clicking noises coming from that area a symptom of a faulty blend door actuator or something else in the system? 2) Any videos/guides to replace for my car model?

    Here's the full text:

The air vent mode selection in my car seems to exhibit random behavior. When I switch the selection on the dashboard between dash-vent-only, to dash-and-foot vents, to windshield-vents the system sometimes works correctly, and sometimes starts blowing air out of the floor-vents when I've selected the dash vents, or the windshield and floor vents when I've selected just the floor, etc. This behavior seems random and is not replicable: Selecting the same air vent mode two times in a row often produces different incorrect behaviors.

Also about 50% of the time when I turn the car off there's a loud clicking sound coming from this system about 1 min after powering off the engine which lasts about 1 minute. Sometimes now it's also making that noise while the car is on if I switch the vent mode from one setting to another (especially if I select the dash vents which seem to be the biggest culprit of failing to be selected.)

I took the lower glove box out and could see the white plastic gear that's right above the blend door actuator rotate to what seemed like it's max extension and then start making the clicking noise. Carefully placing my finger tip in this gear confirmed that the motor was trying to move the gear and running into seeming resistance and "clicking over" it's max extension.

So I know where the sound is coming from, what I'm wondering is if this is a clear cut case of the Blend Door Actuator failing, or if there are other motors/parts in there that can fail, or misalignments that can happen with the gears in that system that could also cause the issue. Specifically because the motor is actuating the gear and the seeming "max extension" issue I'm wondering if the gears could have slipped and are misaligned. However they didn't look stripped and that doesn't really explain the random behavior.

I've already bought a replacement Blend Door Actuator, so it's not about cost. Hopefully this is just a one-and-done replacement if the motor. I just want to get all the parts I might need before I take things apart and work on it so if there are other motors in there, or if getting some replacement gears is also advisable, I'd want to get them before disassembly.

Secondly, I'm wondering if anyone has a link to a video or a picture based instruction manual for getting to the Blend Door Actuator. I've found videos for 2nd Gen and Prius 3s but not a 3rd Gen which seems to be in a different location. Mostly I'm wondering if I'm going to have to take off the entire dash (like in a Prius 3 video I found) it if I can get to it just through the glove box, it with less disassembly. Ideally I can just go through the glove box, but it's quite tight in there and seeing a video where someone talks through where the screws and are what tools they use would be super helpful (I've scoured YouTube and haven't find anything yet - just one video of a guy replacing the part on a 3rd Gen, but he's already disassembled part of the dash - but it's hard to tell exactly what parts because he stays zoomed in the whole time and only shows the blend door actuator up close)

I'm new here but y'all seem like the right people to ask. Thank you for your time!
