Hello PriusChat experts, I am seeking guidance on a persistent issue with my 2007 Prius combination meter. I have completed a full capacitor replacement, but the odometer and speedometer remain completely dead. The door-ajar light and other warning lights do work, so the board has power. 1. Symptoms: · Dead: Speedometer, Odometer/Trip Meter LCD, Gas Gauge, Temperature Gauge. · Working: Door-ajar light, BRAKE warning, other warning lights. The backlight also works. 2. Work Performed: I have replaced all electrolytic capacitors on the board with high-quality,low-ESR, 105°C rated components. · Original Values & Replacements Used: · (1x) 330µF 35V → Replaced with Panasonic EEU-HD1H331 (330µF 50V, HD series) · (2x) 100µF 50V → Replaced with Nichicon UPM1H101MPD1TD (100µF 50V, UPM series) · (4x) 22µF 63V → Replaced with Nichicon UPM1J220MED (22µF 63V, UPM series) 3. Diagnostic Steps Taken: · Pre-replacement testing: All original capacitors were tested out-of-circuit and found to be severely out of spec: · 330µF cap read ~547 µF · 100µF caps read ~125 µF and ~562 µF · 22µF caps read ~28 µF, ~47 µF, and ~74 µF · Post-replacement: All new capacitors were verified out-of-circuit before installation. Values were correct. · Soldering: I have inspected all solder joints under magnification. They are shiny, concave, and show good wetting. I have reflowed several joints to ensure there are no cold solder connections. · Visual Inspection: I have checked for any obvious damaged traces, burnt components, or residual corrosion from the old capacitors. Nothing obvious found. 4. Current Status: After reassembly, the symptoms are unchanged. The working lights function, but the gauges and odometer LCD are completely dead. 5. My Request for Guidance: Given that the recap did not resolve the issue, what should be the next logical diagnostic steps? I am equipped with a multimeter and a soldering iron. I have attached high-resolution photos of both the top and bottom of the PCB for reference. Thank you in advance!
The manual and pin out of all plugs that attach to the assembly . The wiring diagram it's a whole book on its own pub no...EM!10QOU looks like you'll be interested in the bean bus starting on pg 70
There is a voltage regulator chip that is also replaced by Texas Hybrid Batteries (THB) when you purchase a remanufactured CM from them. THB has provided a components list in the combination meter repair - DIY thread, detailing all the parts they replace in their remediation work.
Thank you both for your suggestions! Update: We're back in business. After reading THB's post, I figured to reach out to him directly after troubleshooting some more as suggested by Tombukt2. I sent in my meter to him and the issue was the LCD itself. He fixed it and even though I replaced the caps, he went ahead and replaced everything just to be safe. Received my meter earlier this morning and put it back in. I'm happy, wife's happy, all around great work. Thank you again!
