(This is related to another thread.) I remember reading within the past 6 months that the average curb weight of vehicles in the US (cars and light trucks combined) is now around 41xx pounds. My Google kung fu isn't quite good enough as I can't find the document or articles about it anymore. The official government page might have been from the EPA, NHTSA or some other government agency... I'm not talking about the stats at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/cafe/CAFEData.htm either.
I finally found it myself. http://www.epa.gov/otaq/cert/mpg/fetrends/420s06003.htm The avg weight of vehicles for the 2006 model year is now 4142 lbs w/light trucks (includes SUVs, minivans, pickups and some vans) making up 50% of sales.
