Forgive me if I post this in the wrong forum. I’m not sure if it’s a technical issue a maintenance issue or what.

Recently, while I was out of town and my 2013 Prius was parked in my driveway, my neighbor backed into it and hit it pretty hard. When I returned, I found it had a broken driver side tail light, and the bumper was badly damaged. The lower part of the hatchback also had a small dent. The odd thing though is that when I went to drive it, I discovered the view out my back window was extremely distorted. Looking at it more closely the window had a waviness throughout.

I noticed I could peel away some of the tint that was already curled up at the edge, so I removed a small section wondering if it would help — it made the distortion worse. When I brought the car to a body shop to get an initial opinion, he told me the distortion was caused by the glue from the tint and insurance would not cover that. He added that a solution would be to take it off with acetone or a razor. So again, I went home and tried His suggestion out. In the small area, I was able to do so by hard scraping with a straight razor edge (the acetone did nothing until almost everything was scraped away in the small area I did). It seems to have worked. I have lots more scraping off what seems ti be 3 layers of stuff to do to get the entire window done.

My question is how in the world did this distortion happen? Is it just a weird coincidence it occurred in the same week the car was hit, or is there some correlation? Is all the scraping going to damage my rear defroster strips in the glass (this is only a minor concern since I live in ice/snow less NE Florida)? Should I try to get the rear window retired again? Any assistance solving this mystery would be greatly appreciated.
