The amount of people with egos so fragile they can't allow themselves to be passed by a Prius, is insane. It happened to me occasionally in the past regardless of my car, but it's happened to me three times in the past month in the Prius. I just can't wrap my head around it. I don't give two flying turds if somebody passes me. Be better people. From a former Prius hater to Prius owner (out of necessity), I have to say the worst thing about a Prius is the stigma attached to it. It's an objectively good car. It is not slow by any means (laughably two of the people that tried to stop me from passing them by trying to outrun me, failed ). On paper, it's slower than most modern cars, and it is. In the real world, every bit of the car's power is available whenever you want, just smash the throttle and go, thanks to the CVT and electric motors, torque is available whenever you need it. It has plenty of passing power. I can be doing 80mph by the end of most on ramps. I've hit the 112mph limiter in my 2009 and my 2010, with ease. Both my 09 and 2010 will squeal the tires. I've driven cars that are actually slow. I've ridden in cars that couldn't make it up a hill. So to everyone that says a Prius is slow, were you born yesterday?
On my way to work is a quarter mile or so double lane road ending at a light, most all turn right to head into the city. So it starts at a light. Every now and then someone comes up right behind me only to suddenly move to the left lane - I'm sure after seeing a Prius. On green light they try and blow past me and move to the right lane to make the next right. But that's when I hit the power mode button. Makes my day watching them in the rear view mirror move back into my lane... it's the little wins.
Probably faster to just mash the pedal without hunting for the button. You can see that the normal, ECO, and PWR curves all meet at the same point when the pedal is fully down.
