Probably just as well Frodoz, very few seem to understand your point. I just wish I lived next door to you, so I could borrow your digital torque wrench!

I'd love to do more of my own work, but would like to have someone who knows what they are doing looking over my shoulder for the first run. I need my car to be operational at 6am on Monday, not needing a tow because I screwed something up.

My 2014 prius is at 120,625k and never had a brake fluid flush is this a critical thing to do? We just changed the spark plugs. Also been wondering if there is a list here on recommended services and milage for all things?

Toyota USA publication Warranty and Maintenance Booklet* summarizes all the maintenance they recommend, albeit in event-by-event format, which makes it very awkward (actually impossible) to see the patterns/frequencies. Also, it stops at 120k miles, and I guess you're meant to extrapolate from then on, which again, with the inability to see the patterns...

Anyway, I started this with my Canadian schedule, different format but equally maddening, and did the US schedule as well, and extrapolated to 240k miles (attached)

One thing absent from the US schedule, and the Canadian schedule for my 2010, was the brake fluid change interval, no mention. However, as of maybe model year 2014, Toyota Canada started saying every 3 years or 48k kms (~30k miles).

Another thing missing from both US and Canadian schedule, is a transaxle fluid change. My take would be to do a first change around one year or 10k miles, and one more, perhaps 50k miles further on. It seems like the transaxle fluid is pretty stable/durable, once the manufacture debris is flushed, at least judging by drained fluid versus new.

    More non-mentions:

Keep oil changes to 6 months or 5k miles. Within reason: our case, we're only driving about 3k kms a year now (~2k miles), so I've resorted to just a single, yearly oil change. Until partway through model year 2014 (at a particular VIN), Toyota used low-friction piston ring, and coupled with the Toyota USA recommendation to only change oil yearly or 10k miles, the cars are prone to excessive oil burning.

Periodic EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system cleaning, preferably at least every 50k miles. This newly implemented system becomes carbon choked over time, and I suspect it's the prime factor in head gasket failures that plague gen 3.

My signature has info on some of this. (on a phone turn it landscape to see signatures)

    * If you're missing that booklet, a pdf is available for download. One source is the Toyota Tech Info website, under the "Manuals" tab.

If you want your brakes to work, and last longer.
