Has anyone had luck drying out a wet car with soaked carpets? If yes, did you manage to get it dry without taking out all the carpets? Backstory: a local shop (who has been good for us in the past) just replaced our AC evaporator about a month ago, today my wife says the car is getting funky (she is right!), so I poke around and discover they neglected to connect the evaporator drain hose. So we've got about a month of S. FL humidity soaking our carpets, probably several gallons of water. I will take it back to them, but I'm also thinking if I want something done right I need to do it myself.. Any tips or suggestions are welcome!
I wouldn't mess around. A shop vac of available to suck out any water possible, then of at the very least lift all the carpet off the floor with some blocks underneath. Open car, fans if available. May still end up needing a chlorine dioxide generator or ozone generator to polish of the last of the funk
You need to remove the carpets. Or at very least lift the wetted area. The padding is probably wet as is the metal floor surface. Shop vac, heat, or/ and air drying will not do it in my experience without carpet removal. Long term is you may end up with a musty odor. Good luck
Keep the 12 volt battery well through all of this, either simple disconnect or put it in a smart charger.
Thanks guys for the replies. I removed the seats and pulled up the carpet and there was a ton of water. I shop vac'd over a gallon out. We decided to tear out the padding on the back of the carpet and order new padding. At the moment the carpets are pinned up and fans are drying out what's left. Fun times!
