The Russians deploy a lot of EW trucks to blanket areas with RF noise. The Ukrainians need huff-duff sensor equipped drones: laser directional drone-to-drone communications with ephemeris frequency sweeping, direction finding killer or droppable ordinance Three (or more) drones fly in a triangular, variable altitude formation listening for "hot" signals. Each provides a vector to the others. They converge around the EW signal source and then use thermal (or other) sensors to identify the source. Finally, the drop ordinance on the Russian EW system. Ah....Huff Duff. A WW-2 classic! Asymmetrical warfare favors the insurgents - and drones are nothing if not tailor made for 'freedom fighters.' Russia ought to be old enough to know better......
On further reflection, three fiber-laser equipped drones could form a steerable, phase-array antenna: Three receiver/transmitter nodes per drone hanging down with laser based communications, intra-node communications. Three of these drones placed at least 20-50 m apart for a total of nine, coordinating, receiver/transmitter nodes. This forms a nine node, dynamic, phase array antenna that is very directional. They can focus their transmitter and receiver target at large distances, over 10s of km. Meanwhile, curvature blocks a line of sight of the lower nodes from the Russian EW transmitters. With a directional antenna on the combat drones, they should work even with kW of RF noise from the Russian EW. Meanwhile, the proposed Huff Duff killer drones attach the Russian EW source. The Huff Duff is a World War II name for phase detection antenna arrays. Within millisecond time scale, they can provide a directional vector to a transmitter. With three coordinated within drones flying in formation, easy to triangulate to the target transmitter antenna. Destroy the jammers and the airspace become much more, long distance, drone friendly.
