I see from your bio you have an older car. I believe back then the lower trim cars had dummy spares so the attachment point was still on the upper models without a spare. I’m guessing that attachment point isn’t on the 5th gen car since none have spare tires.
If you'd head over to the Maintenance sub-forum, you'll find a long thread about how to install a spare tire as factory as you want it. A spare is an option in Japan, and standard equipment in Mexico. Any Prius HEV(FWD or AWD) can add a spare. Prius PHEV cannot. I've had mine for well over two years. You can have a complete conversion for around $600-$700. Or you can do a bare minimum install for around $100. Or anything in between. All depends on how much money you want to spend and how polished you want the finished product to be. Parts list is available in the other thread. Easiest conversion is FWD XLE or LTD. AWD XLE and LTD is just a tiny bit harder(1 additional part + 3 nuts to hold it on). FWD LE is more involved. AWD LE just a tiny bit worse. Here's my setup. It's as complete of a conversion as you can do: (even did the decals)
@Hammersmith, you could put the bottom line on this. What are the official part numbers for the OEM Gen 4 and Gen 5 tire valve caps? There are several part numbers. They seem to be for different model years. The dealer lost my OEM tire valve cap today while replacing a tire.
2021 Prime seems to be 90942-05039. 90942-05038 would also work as it was superseded by 05039. Technically, the gen5 doesn't seem to have an orderable valve cap(you can only order the whole valve). I suspect 05039 would work on it, though. The valves for the spare tires are the same between the gen4 and gen5, so I have to suspect all the valve caps are uniform. 05039 is compatible with 37 models and over 1000 variants from 2003-2025, so that's probably the entire Toyota/Scion lineup over that span.
The only confusion is that there is also the 90942-A5002, which looks identical to the 90942-05039. Do you know the difference? I know my car specs the 90942-05039. Could it be that they are identical or there is a subtle difference such as one of them having an O-ring seal inside?
OK, I think the 90942-A5002 might be cheapo ones vs. the 90942-05039 being made by Pacific. Mine came with Pacific-made ones.
Here is the Pacific Japan web page: Products | Valve Products | Technologies & Products | Pacific Industrial Co., Ltd. And this their catalog: https://www.pacific-ind.co.jp/eng/product/valve/pdf/productguide_valve.pdf PVC25 is the correct tire valve cap for my car, and it has an O-ring seal inside according to the drawing, unlike the cheap Xtra Seal cap the dealer gave me today. Perhaps the two parts are identical after all. They look slightly different colors in these pictures (mine is black), but perhaps that’s the lighting. Or perhaps they are both made my Pacific but in different factories. 90942-05039: 90942-A5002:
Makes sense. I believe a letter at the start of the second five digits often denotes an outside supplier(outside meaning not the ones used in the factory). AZ is an economy part(often found in brake pads - don't use them), WA is for BMW, WB is Mazda, YYZ for maintenance items. So 05039 is the factory part, while A5002 is a locally sourced part that conforms to the OE standard.
It's more likely that they're both made using the same specs(provided by Toyota) but by different companies. They might look identical simply because Toyota gave them the design and said make this for us.
