Mice have attacked the windshield wiper hose that is located behind the hood insulator panel on my 2008 Prius. How do I safely remove the insulator clips without damaging the insulation so I can replace the hose?

My is flaking. Whould it hurt the hood to delete it and install a hood strut.

Hurt the metal? No. The paint, maybe. Part of what a hood liner does is to insulate the hood from the heat of the motor. My daughter grossly overheated a Protege5 and even with the hood liner intact the paint on top of the hood looked, well, wrong, afterwards. Big patches that no longer matched the rest of the hood. Can the tiny motor in a Prius muster enough heat to do the same under normal conditions? I wouldn't think it would happen in a single brief exposure like that Mazda, but possibly with extended use.
