I used to drive gen 2 prius and I had a sunglasses holder. The Gen 5 hovewer, do not have that. So I made my own. I used Einstar Vega to 3D scan the original part, and I used 3ds Max to do reverse engineering / custom design. I use ASA for the material and 3D printing ASA is very difficult. I gor errors in mid printing. It takes around 11 hour to print whole thing. Once you succesful with that, you are good to use. If you suggest me anything I am open to hear. I shared 3d model on Makerworld for free. I also sell printed model on Etsy
Here are a couple of the Toyota accessories for the Prius that are only available for right hand drive Prii. I do not know how to use a 3D printer so I have no idea how hard it would be to print mirror images but here are some pictures and instructions and a link. And a link for multi box on Carmate with a lot of pictures.
That's actually good idea. It's just big enough not to fit my printer so I would need to print part by part. With double sided tape. But you need extra spring system to open the lid. It would fit, just scale would be smaller to make it fit. I can check and see pre-print visual, to see what would it look like if I make it.
I don't think it is necessary to have a lid. It would be nice to have a flat area or tray behind the display that fit snugly around the curves of that dash area. I have tried attaching some thin steel plates to mount magnetic bases for a phone mount but the curve of the plastic dash prevents the adhesive from making a strong bond.
How's it look with both zz's at the end? It looks pretty good with one z but it should be bigabuzz with two z's. Thanks!
Awesome! I just placed the order and added "bigabuzz" in the customization box. Thanks for this cool sunglass holder!
Nice! My Prius is still new to me, but I think I'd not like to lose the secret compartment. I used it the other day. It was the perfect size.
No matter how many times I see 3D printers in action, I'm still amazed at their capabilities and the ingenuity of owners like yourself!
USPS delivered it earlier than expected and it took seconds to install. Great product idea and execution! My gf's sunglasses can now safely sit in the sunglass holder and not in the cup holder. Thanks for this! Sunglass Holder2 by tat2boy posted Nov 30, 2025 at 5:03 PM
