I've seen engine heaters before, and part of the wear and tear on our engines is that the hybrids don't always get up to full temp due to how efficient they can be. This leads to two issues: Wasting gas heating up on cold mornings. Condensation build up in the engine. With Winter here and my Prius as my daily driver I want to help it heat up quicker, save some gas and get warmer on my way to work - not that the heated seats and steering wheel aren't a HUGE help! Cheers.
There's a block heater. That said, my 3rd gen's block heater was subject to a recall, due to fire hazard I think, so I had that done. Old one used to warm the coolant hoses up markedly, in a couple of hours. New one, with 3~4 hours plugged in, is mediocre warmish. Apparently watts went from 400 to 200.
I've got a DEFA 300W oil pan heater - they're the leading brand around here, but it's not clear to me how readily available they are in North America. Oh, and it's 230V - forgot the voltage thing. Hmm. Maybe not the best suggestion for you, but info might be useful to someone. https://www.defa.com/electrical-preheating/engine-heaters/ And I've just noticed that they only list the plug-in G5, which makes sense as that's the only version in Europe. But should be compatible with the non-plug-in. Same part fits various UX, C-HR and Corolla and RAV4 with the same engine.
$140 CDN is a jump; last one I bought, about 5 years back at most, was $90. I seem to recall it was hard to get from US dealerships too, at any price. Not sure why, there’s bitter-cold-winter States.
I will need to inquire with the local dealer if that part is available to order in the USA and if it will fit and operate correctly on a non-Prime model. Thanks for the link!
