I just had Pirelli Tires installed and don't like them. What you you recommend 185/65/15 or 195/65/15?

185 i/65R15 is the Toyota spec'd tire; installing 195'65R15 will theoretically increase radius of the tire by 6.5 mm (~1/4"), which will have ramifications, such as drag increase, stability reduction, through off the odometer. All slight, but...

It will increase ground clearance of course, again, a slight amount.

The OEM 185/65/15 tire actually causes the odo to read slightly higher than actual land speed. (ie speedo shows about 62ish when real speed is 60) Going to a 195/65/15 makes the odo almost dead nuts accurate to actual speed. For a G2 prius, any stability change isn't noticeable. MPG will drop slightly, some due to the new odo vs actual speeds, some due to the 195 tire usually being slightly heavier, some due to the car sitting slightly higher.

No, the computers know the true speed (approximately), but intentionally overreport speed with the speedometer, in part due to legislation: the object being to ensure drivers are never going faster than the displayed mph. More importantly, the computers also record, and display, the odometer value faithfully, IF you stick with the stock size.

In short, going to a larger diameter tire to "fix" the speedometer, is the tail wagging the dog, throws everything else off.

I apologize Mr knowitall. GMAFB, I mis-spoke when I wrote odo, which should be obvious as it makes no sense. Should be speedo. I'm going by actual indicated speed on my speedo vs a RADAR that is displayed near my work every couple weeks in a 50 mph zone. I know for FACT that every one of the multitudes of Gen 2s I've driven the SPEEDOMETER show DEAD on with the radar display after changing to 195 tires. Jesus christ............who the f talks about odometer accuracy when discussing tire size changes?

It says so on the four color tire label which is wrapped on each tyre. Never seen that . 4 color print advertising attached to each tyre. I mean this ture brand does not advertise not like a falken or such . The speed limit is whatever im doing . The cops say that's thats

I do for one. If your priority is spoofing the car into bumping the speedometer display by 2mph, then upsizing is the way to go.

It would help to know what you don't like. One mans best tire is another mans worst. Want a better ride? Michelin. Want better snow and ice handling? Michelin but not the same one. Want better mpg? Same story.

    .

You should be aware that the “NO-Name” tires sold at all major tire stores are made by “Big-Name” companies. I bought a set of tires with the K-Mart name that were made by Michelin. At the same time there were K-Mart tires made by Cooper. I think right now that Firestone’s “House-Brand” tires are made by Bridgestone.
