2005 Prius 299999 miles (actually around 360,000 by my estimation) I am experiencing some new sounds from my Prius coming from my lower dash area. The first is a barking sound from my brake actuator, and the second is a whirring sound when I accelerate that is louder than usual and only heard on some accelerations. It disappears when I press the brake. It seems like it could be coming from the inverter area, but I am curious if any people here have any experience with the sounds I am hearing. I checked my inverter fluid and that was a little low, so I topped that off. I'll be watching for any fluid level changes. Brake fluid level seems okay. This car has been the most BAMF car I have ever owned (I value dependability and fuel efficiency), but I fear the end is near ever since reaching my 299999th mile. I am comfortable with pretty much any repair after following the PriusChat step by step transaxle swapping post successfully several years ago, so I am open to any suggestions and/or tough love. Thanks to all of you amazing members who share your knowledge and experience!
The weird alarm type noise seems somewhat related to wheel speed, so something to do with mg2(doesn't really seem like a metal contact sound) or perhaps something feeding back to the brake actuator? Does the long whine on brake press change depending how hard you press the pedal? I do know that normally the inverter can do a race car accelerating through the gears type of whine sometimes but that is higher pitched and not so fast. And then you do get a variable volume but constant whine when you apply the brakes for regen. It gets louder with more regen/harder press. Hopefully you can give an update if it ever gets figured out
