I have a 2012 Prius. And I’ve got 256,000 miles on it. I have a catch cannon and I noticed I started having White look like water in it. And then I started having misfires. I took the spark plugs out and the first cylinder was white all the rest were black. So I figured I had a blown head gasket. So I ordered another motor it came in and it did the same exact thing. So now I rebuilt my old engine put it in And I’m getting a clear substance in the Catch can. I’m not a mechanic but I’ve done this transaction four times. I’m just trying to get it fixed. I do know when it’s running sometimes the smoke is somewhat white. And then other times it’s not. I don’t know if that’s because sometimes the thermostats engaged and then that’s the way the white smoke comes out. I didn’t notice it dripping out of the muffler in maintenance mode. But I taste of the substance and it just taste like water. Is there any chance my throttlebody could release antifreeze into the intake and that could go into the catch can? I’m at a standstill. Thank you so much for your knowledge and help and advance.
Welcome to PriusChat... For not being a mechanic you're doing some pretty impressive work! Seems like bad luck with a bad replacement engine... Also maybe your headgasket job wasn't thorough enough?
Thank you so much for your reply I’m hoping it’s not. I did everything by the book. Every single type Seal. I use the Fel-Pro gasket. I took the head off flipped it upside down and check the valve seals and all four cylinders held water with no problem. And the head and the block where extremely flat. New head bolts. My first head gasket most people wouldn’t even know. It had just started to barely clean the edges of the 1 piston . You could see where the gasket started giving a little way in between the first and the second cylinder.I’ve put over 100 miles on my rebuilt engine. And it runs excellent. I notice today that in the tail pipe it was not wet at all there’s no water coming out of it. Right now where I live it’s high about 36°.But they’re still like now a teaspoon of water mixed with a little bit of oil in the Catch can. Still the coolant container is still at the same level. And I looked on the inside of the muffler and it’s not washed out or anything. I’m also going to keep my eye on the heat exchanger. As I know that can cause a problem. Only time will tell
I sent a message to a moderator earlier today and ask them to move this thread to the Gen 3 forum. It usually takes about 24 to 36 hours to get done.
Thank you so much I’m new to this stuff I appreciate your help it should’ve been another GEN three not GEN five.
We need more ways to prevent people from posting in the wrong forum! This problem is happening more and more often lately and when replying to posts its not very obvious which forum you're replying on. Maybe if we increased the font size that identifies which forum you're on and add a popup window that questions (in this case) if a Gen3 owner is posting in the correct forum, because clearly they posted in the wrong forum and it's ridiculous that we don't have more prompts to prevent that! It makes too much work for the moderator to move stuff to other forums. We need to fix that!
I was enjoying a good pointless moment of humor. Telling me u misspelled it is like shooting follow textx for typos... Texts
