    Hello everyone,

I have a 2007 Toyota Prius (Gen 2) with about 171,000 miles that's stuck in permanent limp mode due to what appears to be a failed brake actuator assembly.

    Current symptoms:
    • C1259 and C1310 codes (ABS actuator-related) confirmed with my own OBD-II scan
    • Very poor acceleration – barely drivable, only safe for short local trips on city streets (no freeway)
    • Gasoline engine runs constantly (trying to charge the hybrid system)
    • Consumption screen does not display the hybrid battery at all (system seems to have it offline / no proper regenerative braking)
    • Red triangle warning light and other dash warnings on
Recent repairs / history (to show it's not a neglected car):
    • Hybrid battery replaced successfully ~3 years ago
    • Instrument cluster replaced summer 2025
    • Inverter coolant pump replaced summer 2025 (DIY)
    • Brakes (pads, rotors, fluid) serviced fall 2025 – fluid level and condition look good
I've ruled out most other common causes through testing and the symptoms match classic Gen 2 brake actuator failure.

    What I'm looking for:
    1. Shop or mobile mechanic recommendations in the Albuquerque / Rio Rancho, NM area (ZIP 87124) that have experience with Gen 2 Prius brake actuator replacements. Ideally someone who:
      • Uses Techstream (or equivalent) for proper bleeding
      • Is willing to quote labor-only for install + bleed if I supply the part
      • Won’t insist on a full $200+ diagnostic fee since I already have the codes and symptoms
    2. Recent experiences (2025–2026) with part sourcing and costs:
      • New OEM actuator cost? (~$1,300–$1,800)?
      • Aftermarket best options? (i.e. Amazon listings ~$400–$700, or eBay?)
      • Used OEM pulls (risks vs. rewards) ?
      • Any luck finding reman parts? (Dorman 587-765 appears discontinued/out of stock at major chains like O'Reilly)
    3. Realistic total repair costs people have paid lately for this job in the Southwest (labor + part)

    4. Whether it’s worth fixing at this mileage vs. selling as-is (I'm torn)
I just emailed PriusKings (they claim Albuquerque coverage) and will update here with what they say. In the meantime, any local shop/mechanic suggestions or tips from folks who’ve gone through this would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help – this has been a challenge.
