Interesting. That one is a 3rd party dashcam. The image in the link you posted is just a stock image of a different Toyota dashcam.

Okay so some more research. The PTN57-00230 is also listed on that linked page as being a Carmate DC4000RA. So I assume that the Sparks page is just showing a generic image and not the actual camera.

Here is that camera. Not an integrated look at all.

Think I'll just toss in the towel at this point.. I have a Ring CarCam I can use until I figure out something more preferable. I'd prefer an integrated option but this whole situation has me wanting to pull my hair out.

The dashcam does not provide a rear view and there is not an option to add a rear camera.

A lot of bucks, and frustrating there’s no rear camera.

I agree… but reluctant to splice in a non Toyota part at this stage of the car’s life.

I just looked at the dash cam on this link and it
    Says discontinued.

I don’t really need a camera for when I’m driving. I want one that’s activated during parking with motion detection.

I was just speaking with a neighbor who lives in the building across from me. She’s convinced my cat theft was an inside job. Another guy in her building bought a camera for his car immediately after finding out about my car. Unfortunately he passed away so I can’t ask him what he bought.

Any suggestions? A camera with a motion detection alarm? i did see the Cateye alarm.

PT949-08210 was superseded by PT949-08230 which was superseded by PT949-08231. I believe the last two use the same base camera assembly. I don't know what any of the differences might be(if any). It's not out of the realm of possibility that the only difference between the -30 and -31 could be that the -31 might come with updated firmware preinstalled, while the -30 would benefit from an update after install. But that's just one possibility.

Last night, some sports car passed me dangerously on the right between my car and the tapering orange cones in a construction zone with the two lanes having almost merged into one while I was trying to be safe. Then, when I flashed my high beams at him, he got angry and slowed down and stopped in front of me on the freeway, inviting to be rear-ended. When I was going around him, he threw his drink cup on my car. It was an out-of-state (or perhaps out-of-country) license plate.

At the end, I only had to hose down the car. But it seems like these days, dashcams are most needed. I would have easily got the license plate. I forgot to read it during that craziness.

I also had a road rage incident a couple cars ago. The cameras (front and rear), documented the miscreant knocking off my mirror cap as we had stopped and gotten out of the cars (in retrospect, not a good move). It wasn't really necessary, because as luck would rarely have it, there was a state police detective following us who witnessed everything and arrested the guy. The SP still seemed to appreciate the video evidence that I supplied on an SD card.

I haven't reinstalled them, (Viofo), on the subsequent car because it's such a pain, for me, to hardwire them, they're rarely used, and could be a two-edged sword. Then again, the Prius' built in camera and other vehicle telemetry probably would convict you just as well. :)

I have been debating on getting it, I have been looking for an installation video on Youtube.
Its only the front camera though correct? It doesnt have a rear camera option?

Yes, front only. The dealer should install it for free.

Easy self install in 2026 XLE with the genuine Toyota dashcam and wiring harness. Took about 1.5 hours and most of that was me fretting about placement and then trying to connect to its janky WiFi to change settings.

Ended up placing it closer to the mirror assembly than the (2003) template. There was a small cutout in the headliner that appeared to fit the wire perfectly, so I went with it there. There is a slight bit of the mirror housing showing, but it seems to give the passenger better visibility, so I'm going to leave it there.

Quality seems o.k.. Claims to be 1080p 60fps. Have not checked but it seems as good as the Rexing v2 I had in another car. No LCD screen is a little weird but not a problem.

My only complaints and observations so far are
    - it beeps a lot. Like after I turn the car off it beeped at me. Will look into the settings and see if I can change it. Again
    - the janky WiFi does not have me excited.
    - Another app on my phone for Toyota to track me with.
    - And that app requires my location to to connect to the dashcam and change settings. Really have you not heard of privacy at all?

I also installed the Toyota's OEM Integrated Webcam. I wish I had the foresight to place it directly under the hole in the header instead of the template location. This summer, I'm going to try to relocate mine using the live view on my phone to help place it properly.

I've not had problems establishing the wifi connection between the phone and the webcam. It's important to turn the phone bluetooth off and disconnect the phone from the infotainment system completely. The infotainment system uses both bluetooth and direct wifi to connect to the phone and, if connected, will prevent the phone from connecting to the webcam's wifi. Turn the bluetooth on the phone off to prevent the phone from establishing a direct wifi connection with the infotainment system.

    Good reminder.

Though I don't connect to the infotainment wirelessly. The world gave us copper to make cables, I'm steadfast on using them where possible. Many fewer problems connecting and charging with hard-wired connections. I'm likely only ever going to use the WiFi on the camera to set the settings. I'd much rather just pull the SD card and copy files off. Faster too!

Except when that little thing shoots out of its hole and travels to some unknown nook and cranny. :)
The dashcam I just installed pulls off easily from its mount, so it can be viewed with a laptop via usb cable from the comfort of indoors.
