I know this is a huge NO-NO now.. and I have done a lot of research on this page about steps to take to try to work towards a fix. I just wanted to post the specifics of my situation to try to see if there is a known solution to this problem.

My wife reluctantly tried to jump a co-workers diesel pickup using the under hood jump connections. They hooked the jumper cables to the Prius jump connections and then hooked to the truck battery, the Prius then slowly began to sputter, then ultimately die. It would restart and sputter for 20-30 seconds and die again. I thought it may have toasted the 12V at the time so she bought a new 12V and did not fix the problem. She then had it towed to a shop that "works on hybrids".

The car spent the next month at the shop and they ultimately told her that she should not pursue a fix and buy a new car. I don't have faith after hearing their diagnostic process that they actually know where they are doing. But none the less, she's shopping for a new-used car and I towed the car home to try to fix it. Because up until now, it has been a very reliable car with minimal maintenance issues.

Here's a chronological order of the steps the shop took:
Read engine codes: Code is (low engine power)
Replace spark plugs and perform leak down test - Result: Nothing changed but has good compression (obviously)
Check for bad gas - Result: Doesn't have bad gas (obviously)
Check fuses for 12V - Result: All the fuses they checked had 12V - unknown what actually was checked
Replace ECU - Result: No change in car's condition
This process took 1 month for them to complete and after the ECU didn't fix the car they said they no longer want to work on it. They did charge her $550 for the spark plugs and compression test.

Here is what I know about the car right now: The car will turn on, the dash lights and display works, if I try to start the car it won't start and I get the "red triangle of death", I can switch the car from park to neutral, the display shows the hybrid battery has no charge. My wife told me that she was able to start the car a couple times after it died and the shop also said they could get the car to start, the engine would run and the spark plugs were wet with fuel once it died.

My thought is that the jump fried a circuit that controls the air/fuel mixture sensors and everything would be working if the gasoline engine would run properly.

Any help is much appreciated. Going to begin checking fuses, fusible link etc and dive into the rabbit hole.

Sounds like you need to charge the hybrid battery.
A lot of people think the engine is starting, but it is just spinning over with gas being injected.
Then they kill the battery by repeatedly trying until it’s toast.
Make sure the 12v is healthy with a free load test at most auto parts stores.
Then get an autel maxi 200 scanner and read the codes.
If it is still poor engine power, go through all the possibilities again.
If anything is fried, the codes will point in that direction

Okay, I'll be able to get the 12v tested today and look at purchasing that specific code tester.

And from what your saying is the hybrid battery will turn the engine over and most people will assume the engine is actually running when it is not. Eventually the hybrid battery drains and can no longer turn the engine over, which if this is the case the problem would likely be associated with the gas engine not starting and running properly.

With the hybrid battery now being dead though, how will the engine ever turn over again unless the hybrid battery gets charged?

I don't think Anything's fried.. poor engine power should run but badly . Is the converter still throwing 13.7 to 14.5 ho you're 12V battery?

Ill try testing to battery voltage with the car as close to “on” as I can get it to be and see what the voltage is and report back. Currently I’m taking the 12v to get load tested, which I imagine it will pass being a brand new battery.

It won't the hybrid battery needs be brought up to 200V.with like a charger that charges at 300V @2.4 MA

Right on, so your thinking the problem may be that the hybrid battery needs to be recharged and that may entirely be the problem?

This shop that changed the spark plugs and did a compression test, what the heck were they thinking? The jump start caused all the issues, how did it affect the spark plugs and compression? You should NEVER go back to these so called experts with hybrids

I only took to that shop because my wife was working out of town and I didn’t have a lot of options. I will never take any vehicle there again. Davis and Clark auto in Bend, OR so everyone knows. Pretty frustrating.
