That's strange. I have seen so many cases of brick-and-mortar retailers stocking their shelves with items priced much higher than online prices. I often wonder how they even sustain their business with those higher price. But some people just needs to simply walk in and buy rather than wait a few days to be delivered at door. I am not one of them. I will gladly wait at home a few days get them online.

Produce and perishables; I prefer to look at what I buy. I'm a bit particular with the food I buy and cook with; but that's just me. I'm with you on manufactured stuff, hard items - I can usually wait, especially now that I'm retired...

Yeah, DW does all groceries locally in stores. But I am sure she uses credit card payment in most stores. I do comparison shopping for almost everything I buy online to find the best price. But at grocery store, I have no idea prices of things if they are good buy or not.

As made clear in the sentence you deleted, I was referring to direct-from-manufacturer websites, not third-party sellers.

Some sellers do charge higher than MSRP, but most don't.

I omitted it on purpose to make the statement all inclusive, which includes direct-from-manufacturer websites and other third party online merchant's website. I can give you numerous examples for such cases. This happen often on many electronics where manufacture has an online store. I recently purchased Tapo security camera direct from their store. The price was cheaper than I could find in any local brick-and-mortar retail stores, like Best Buy. It even beat the Amazon price on this instance.

^ If you pay attention, you will find plenty of other manufacturers that don't do that. I did not make an all-inclusive claim, but did say 'many', not 'every'. Product sales models are not one-size-fits-all.

Whatever! I don't really care. Only thing I care is what I buy. Those things I buy most frequently are almost always cheaper online at direct from manufacture online store if exist, or from third party online stores. The price tag on the shelf of brick-and-mortar stores are almost always more expensive. Only reason I would shop at those physical stores are when I can't wait the item to be shipped to my door front, or too expensive to ship or can't be shipped. Only exceptions are as someone else commented, the produce and perishables. But I don't do those shopping myself. My wife does. lol

Around here paying utilities or .gov by credit card unless you go through a mile of bs is very high.

usually get charged a counter fee plus a customer assistance fee along with a percentage.

do that with my moms utility and your out $20 before you even pay the bill.

thats why now that woodmans started allowing discover cc and the eagles nest solely accepts cash I end up continuing to use checks for utilities and .gov

a lot of other stuff has gone back to cash after years of being mostly cc

I suppose both. Large payments with greenbacks are mainly of interest to Walter White types.

    Indeed.
This isn't about having a bunch of Bengies in a wall safe in your house.
It's about not NEEDING them in the first place!
We keep a little broken down cash in the house for reasons that should be very obvious - but we keep the emergency fund in a bank - and the retirement fund in the market - where EACH BELONGS.

Remember.....if things go 'slightly turbo' then having six months of cash in your house is just going to make you somebody else's easier-access 24-hour bank - and if things go REALLY turbo.........it won't even be fit for wallpaper.

    It's not about CASH.
    It's about debt.
They call them Proverbs for a Reason.

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.....

I like seeing all my transactions on my bank and credit card statements. Money is money, a strange concept anyway. Other animals don’t use money, in some way it has caused a lot of suffering.

Yeah, its not about cash. Its about having enough liquid assets and no debt. Nothing to do with cash. If someone has enough liquid asset (not necessarily cash), and not in debt, then it is better than not having cash or all of money in non-liquid assets. That's always true emergency or not. After all, if US defaults, US paper money will become worthless just like stock of a bankrupt company.

In the Tom Clancy book Debt of Honor, there’s a paragraph, that explained “money”, at least for me. I’ve kinda forgotten, should dig it up again, have it here. Somewhere…
