I got my Prius a few years a go and thought it was cool (real cool!!) that when I walk up to the car, the doors unlock, then I get in and push the button and drive off. I didn't know there was any other way. A mechanic was going to do a test on my car and asked for the fob. He stuck it in the dash. I realize this is a personal choice, no right or wrong answer. I was wondering, how many people do that each time? Do you let the FOB detect you next to the car and unlock or do you actually get the fob out and push the button, then after getting in the car, put it in the dash? ebm
I pretty much leave it in my pocket all the time... I do DoorDash and UberEats so I'm in and out of the car a lot. Being able to lock/unlock the doors without digging for the remote every time is a real timesaver.
My father probably hasn't been out of the car in about 5 years I live in a wonderful place where car locking and things like that are unnecessary when I go to the ig bad cities . I take a vehicle I really don't care about . So if something happens no serious love lost call someone for a ride.
If you turn off the proximity sensing by pushing the button under the dash, the car battery doesn't drain as quickly. Then you can leave the car undriven for longer periods without worrying about coming back to a no-start. With proximity turned off, you have to press the fob buttons to lock/unlock the car, and put the fob into the dash slot to drive. Also, even if you have proximity turned on but the fob battery ever runs down to where you can't start the car just by having the fob with you, putting the fob in the slot gives you a way you can still drive the car.
When you own a lot of cars the fob stays with the car in the driveway I don't use key rack and numbering . Open door see the fob. Choose the car or next one .
We use a silicone protective cover over the plastic fob to protect the plastic shell from drops and cracks. With the sleeve over the fob, it cannot be inserted into the slot. We keep it either in the pocket, on the dash, or in the center cup holder.
Oneine has cover too so no slotting. sometimes if these cars act weird it seems slotting the remote helps clear up whatever's going on . I don't know if the remote can forget where it is or forget the car it's connected to or what happens but
The battery in the fob can run down. The RFID chip will still work in the dash slot. Or the owner may have chosen to push the KEY button under the dash to disable the "smartkey" functions and preserve 12-volt battery life. The fob buttons will still work to lock and unlock doors, and the fob still works in the dash slot.
