Hello everyone lityle update : I installed a JDM motor 3rd Gen to my 2012 on my own for year so far but the ac went very bad after that. Now after so many testing and trying so far the my final results that Compressor is dead. one of my friend who is a Prius mechanic give couple of AC compressors that came out with the JDM motor to try them out. the right first question is 1- how can i test those AC compressors in the most convenient way (if there is any)? 2- I need a referral to a good instruction and recommendation how to add Freon with new AC compressor ? 3- Do I need to get new condenser? 4- how about the ready to go Cans like (1234R) Thank you in advance
It's a variable pressure system so the amount of lubricant and refrigerent you add is done by a precise weight. This might explain why your old AC failed. As for getting an AC compressor you can 1) roll the dice on a used one from a wrecking yard/online, 2) buy an aftermarket one, 3) get ripped off spending big on an OEM one.
The only safe test is in the car with refrigerant in the system. Its r134a with a special hybrid oil. Don't use r134a with oil or stop leak in the can. Don't use gauges which have been used on conventional systems in the past. These are different compressors than most cars since they use high voltage electric motors to create variable capacity. Once the lines are open and reconnected a deep vacuum is necessary. Some would change the dryer which is brazed on to the condenser. The refrigerant required is 16.6 oz and should be allowed to enter the system without the compressor running. See attached. I would strongly suggest finding an auto ac shop with hybrid experience.
