    Greetings All,

Wondering the general consensus for putting masking tape between the cells on the base to solve electrolyte issues.

I've seen several videos where this was done. Seems it might pose a fire hazard.

    Thoughts?

No Consensus... Never heard of it and I started rebuilding battery packs 8 years ago. The electrolyte leaks from the seals when they're running hot where the terminals bolt to the bus bars. You can't stop this leaking and tape between the modules at the base won't do anything other than make the pack run slightly hotter.

Masking tape? Don't know about fire, but I wouldn't be surprised if it just soaks up the leaked electrolyte and conducts anyway....

Rookies. There are many times where one of the metal inserts on the bottom of the module is exposed to the electrolyte due to a small internal crack in the plastic, but not actually leak electrolyte externally. This has been done quite often to insulate the metal insert from the case base. A bit of (usually) electrical tape underneath a module that has an insert causing a ground fault can clear a P0AA6 very inexpensively, of course the threaded fastener is also left off that module. Not a highly recommended solution, but completely understandable for a DIY that understands how electricity works. If someone doesn't grasp the concept of insulating a ground fault, then they probably don't understand what I'm describing.
