Current purchase options for replacement ABS actuator?

Hi all,
Newish to Prius and this forum. I bought my brother-in-laws 2007 Prius a couple years got for my teenaged kid. It has 240k miles, newer tires, new 12v battery and hybrid battery at 68% life expectancy based on Dr Prius app.

I confirmed via Just Answers and Reddit that ABS actuator is going out. I also found enough YouTube videos to be able to do the work myself. The rub is where to buy used from? Or what to look for? I know that actuator that ends in -50 are the bad ones. Some end in -90, -51, and -40 I think. Anyone have any advice or thoughts on where/how to source one. Or if there is an existing thread I should look at.

 

Excellent, thanks so much. Also, can you share your thoughts on the ‘matching’ resistor? Seems like most of the instructional videos don’t do that and when the they are tested the new and old come back with the same ohm readings. Is changing resistors a precaution or is there really some kind of pairing, like ECU units etc.

 

Okay, so I just found and ordered on eBay a 44510-47051 which is on the sticker on the actual part. Assuming that is what is sent to me, that is the correct part?

 

Ok, I see what you mean by the listed ‘catalog’ part-number and the part-number on the actual part. On the website/catalog it’s listed as 44500-47141. But on the physical part itself the sticker is 44510-47051. Here’s a picture of mine from eBay. It looks to have the same sticker so I may have hit the actuator lottery and found the updated version, which I assume has a higher probability of being a good part.

Thanks so much for this info. TBH after watching 3-4 different install videos I felt better about actually doing the job, but finding the right one on the used market then became my concern. A ton of -05 ones out there with a bunch of different numbers I was told to buy from different websites.

So it seems like the -05 were the faulty ones. Do you know if there was a model year that Toyota eventually started installing the fixed -51 actuators or did the issue start popping up after they switched to Gen3 models so that the -51 actuators was installed by dealer service? I know the one I have on order is used, so just curious is it means it’s from a car that went thru the fix or if it was from like a later 2009 model?
