I have been taking my 2021 Prius Prime Limited to West Coast Toyota of Long Beach since it was new. I have never taken it anywhere else or done any oil changes myself. During the oil change on Friday, the technician flagged that an oversized drain plug had been installed, had leaked, and recommended a $1,000 replacement for the oil pan. Obviously, the damage was caused during one of the previous oil changes at this dealer.

So, the dealer should replace the oil pan for free, right, since they are the ones who messed it up? Also, could it get worse afterward and leak from the pan if they do a poor job? Below are the instructions from the OEM repair manual.

Your state has robust consumer protection laws that include payment of attoney's fees as a penalty for violation. You might want to talk to a CA attorney before reviewing options with the dealer.

If you don't get compliance from the dealer, you might also take it up the Toyota hierarchy to see what remedy they would enforce.
