I'm thinking of selling my 2008 Prius with 350K miles for whatever I can get and buying a 2013 with 142K miles for $8K, as I am a lady on a budget .... has the 2013 Prius experience been good? Thanks.
If your 2008 is not giving you any problems, I would stick with that for basic transportation. The 2013 has a lot more issues than a basic 2008. You also know the history of your car vs buying an unknown used car with that many miles
If you've had a gen 3 since new, replaced the oil at least twice as often as toyota usa recommends, installed an effective oil catch can, cleaned the full EGR system at least every 50k miles, and have at most 100k miles on the odometer, yeah it "might" be a dependable car. LOL...
I wrench on my own cars and I wouldn't touch a 2013 Prius w/142K miles; unless it was given to me for FREE. I'm fairly confident that I may be able to break-even on that deal; once everything that needs to be addressed is done to my satisfaction and would probably give it to one of my nieces or nephews. You know what they say about idle hands....... I'd stick with the devil that you know; unless you KNOW something is about to blow-up. People usually don't give up a good running, reliable Prius, when gas prices are high and salaries are low. Just my two-cents.....
Keep a good running 2008 especially if the hybrid battery was replaced. Gen2 Prii rarely blow head gaskets or inverters. Brake Booster failures are about the same as a gen3. Getting a 2016 or newer Prius (not v), Rav4 or Camry hybrid is a better risk than a 2010-15 Prius or a 2012-2017 Prius v.
