I had a 1985 VW GTI (manual transmission) parked at my office and at the end of the day I approached it and found my driver's window shattered ... the stereo had been stolen. While going back inside the office to deal with corporate security and call the police my keys were left in the ignition and I asked a co-worker to remove them but in reaching awkwardly through the window to do that he turned the keys the wrong direction and that darn car started (in 1st gear thanks to the thief). And despite being parked a few inches from a curb it jumped that curb and drove off. Another corporate security agent ran after the vehicle and got the door open 30 yards away and stopped it before it reached an area with picnic tables. Then I walk out of the building finding my car in the middle of the grassy field and thinking to myself did that thief come back to steal the car? Now the police arrive and I had to get them to understand the theft happened way over there in the parking lot and not in this grassy picnic area (the shattered glass in the lot helped my believability). Yet it's still unbelievable that car started in gear with that curb there.

And I can't drive a stick shift more than 10 feet without stalling it!
