I remember Ford also offering a vehicle to home charger for the Lightning that would allow automatic switch over during a power outage.

 

.....welp.....in that case their "Lightning" may be aptly named.

In my experience most people who keep their full sized trucks in a garage don't really need full sized trucks - although for the princely sum that they're being charged for a range limited pickup that sucks at towing it might as well be useful for SOMETHING.

 

somewhat practical uses for an EV like the one included in your post are the best advertisements how EV's can be useful to consumers in certain situations and are better sales drivers than all the artificial government stimulators in the world.

99% of vehicle buyers who want this backup power option will never use it.

 

Unlike AWD that most never use, there isn't an ongoing price to it.

 

Not for lack of opportunity to use it. Nowhere near that many people have electric power reliability high enough to never have a need for it. Or are you suggesting that that many people will be too lazy to have the home transfer switch installed?

My plug-in RAV4 has merely a 120V 1500W outlet, not the split-phase 240V of the above BEV, but has been used during a home power outage, and on the family farm as a portable electric generator. Though its primary use so far has been to use our home boot dryers to warm ski boots while driving up to the ski hill. It is much easier and more pleasant to pull them on warm than cold.
