Expensive Oil Change & Tire Rotation?

Yeah the return to spin-on happened a year or two into 4th gen.

Gen 2’s are all spin-on.

there’s a link in my signature* with info. Note, there were/are multiple versions of the main spin-on component, AFAIK they all work fine, mostly bored engineers with time on their hands.

the one I got from Amayama was an earlier version, works.

Extremely unlikely. I would try the version sold for a gen4 nearest your year.

You have a gen3. Gen4 has block and many other changes which could make revisions relevant.

It fits! So far I've done the oil and filter.
I have to go to the mailroom first before I go to the rest of the mild service. Theres alot of things I found out that the dealer didn't do right. Hopefully when I open the air cleaner its not gonna be like the first time it seen daylight after its original assembly.

Does the 2018 prius base model have service reminder and service mile tracker on screen?
Just wondering because the 2007 I use has all of those.

Yes, maintenance minder will go off around 4.5K from last rest. It'll disappear when you get moving. If you ignore it past 5K, It'll stay on-screen until you manually clear acknowledge it.

All set on the 2018 car. My wife is hardly using that car with still under 20k miles. Were always driving the 2007 and that's the one that I worked on a lot. Since the '07 has 177,000 miles, I started using 5w-40 oil (from the previous 5w-30). Surprisingly the car runs smoother with this oil, been quiet even in morning first start, lesser oil lost and able to maintain a better MPG in the stop and go driving. I notice that I go to the gas station lesser. I'm not sure if this is just a coincidence and I just rebuilt the hybrid battery. But also I been driving this car since I bought it back in 2018 as a used car with 98k miles. I use to change my oil previously set on 4,500 miles. Let's see what it looks like when it gets there. Anyone religiously using the same 5W-40?

 

I believe the 2018 calls for 0w20; IMHO - moving to 5W40 is a bridge too far to cross. Your way out of specs for a car engineered for 0W20. If you live where the snow don't stick, you might be able to get away with it. Your 2007 was engineered for 5W30; so pushing it to 5W40 isn't much of a stretch. When that 2018 engines stops and then restarts; it'll need to push 40 weight oil all the way up to the valve train. That's going to be a dry start every-time that happens.Thin oil has been proven on the race track; though they rebuild the motors after every race.
If your getting oil consumption issues in the 2018, try moving to 5W20; but I wouldn't jump to 5W40.

Reads like two different cars to me; but then again English is my second language. I tend to take things plainly; I expect periods and new paragraphs when changing subject matter. I can usually figure out technical service manuals and find a lot of mistakes in those too; but at least I can look at the unit and definitively say the manual is wrong. That's why I hate e-manuals; can't put corrections/notes in the margins so someone else doesn't make the same mistake. I usually print them and make corrections, but coworkers really PO me when they take my copy - don't ask or leave a note.

He has a 2018 with low miles and a 2007 with high miles he bought used in 2018. There are some confusion factors in the descriptions and extrapolations.

He is trying to attribute smoother operation and higher mpg on his 2007 to increased viscosity oil which is not logical but admits he rebuilt the hybrid battery. A higher capacity hybrid battery routinely results in smoother operation and increased mpg.

Reduced oil consumption is possible with increased oil viscosity but mpg would suffer if higher viscosity oil was the only changed variable.

That's the way I interpreted it; just wasn't sure if he wanted to use 5w40 on both cars. You can see that post #71 was focused on the 2018.

 

There were no confusion about the threading. As you scroll back before my previous post, were we talking last about the 2018 and my follow-up was "I'm all set with it."
So going back to the 2017 as clearly mentioned... It is self explanatory no matter how you look at it. No one in the right state of mind would think about putting a heavy weight oil on a less than 20k mile car.
There is a long version of hiding and majaska in this threading! All you need to say is "I'm sorry I made a mistake and let's go back to the real discussion about changing oil." End of the story!

The 2007 is running good so far. Let's see what happens to the 177k miles using a 5w-40 oil.
