Hello, A family member with a 2013 Prius 3 (Backup Camera and GPS, but no JBL) has a head unit/screen that seems to be dying. In hot weather above 80 or 90 degrees, it will not turn on. The backup camera will also stay off until the weather cools down. The Toyota Dealer Service people said told him that this unit is not manufactured anymore, and they offered to order an aftermarket part to install. He was doing some research, and wanted to buy this head unit on Amazon - though it has mixed reviews, some folks mentioned that it works with the stock backup camera: Here’s a video of someone installing it, although it's likely that neither he nor I would be able to do this ourselves: I let him know to reach out to his local non-dealer mechanic to see if he could get a quote , and/or a recommendation for a local Car Audio place. Has anyone used any of these cheaper head units? His main priority is the backup camera. I guess Bluetooth and GPS would be secondary (he has a standalone Garmin GPS, though it'd be nice if GPS were integrated). He is not a big audio person. Thanks in advance!
Go to Spidermans post in then sticky Print the pages that show the dash panels you remove. Note the clip locations. The correct cable should be plug n play, even the backup camera. You may need an external microphone for Bluetooth
Thanks! I saw the PDF in Spiderman's first post in his sticky. Given he was replacing a 2010, and there was mid-cycle refresh in 2012, are there any notable differences to keep in mind?
I think dash removal is about the same. Make sure you send the seller a picture of the back of your radio and the factory harness. You need the correct harness and canbus adapter.
Thank you @Patrick Wong for sharing your experience! I added a post to your thread. Also adding an update: I found that Binize has a website where they sell a 2GB RAM version for $170 (matching Amazon) and a 4GB RAM version for $280. There may be some coupon codes floating around online for 10% off. 9 Inch Android Car Stereo for 2010-2015 Toyota Prius with wireless Car – Binize I am debating whether it's worth the steep upcharge to get 4GB version. In my my mind, as long as the 2GB version is working okay for the folks that have installed it, I am not sure it's worth the extra $110, especially for someone that's a basic user.
