    Howdy folks,

Just completed my first oil change at just over 5K miles. Based on recommendations here I went with the Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend. I bought my new filter and a drain plug washer at the dealership. When I pulled the original filter, I saw that it was made in Japan by Denso and labeled 90915-10003. It looks very high quality. The filter from the dealer, "TOYOTA GENUINE PARTS" etc. is made in Thailand, labeled 90915-YZZF2 and looks like a Purlolater or anything else. Any thoughts? Does the Toyota filter have various manufacturers? All things being equal the Denso looks better to me.

    Thanks, Doug

Yes. While it is possible to buy a 'Made in Japan' OEM Toyota oil filter, they are expensive, being atleast twice the price of those made in other countries.

All Toyota OEM oil filters are made to the same standards and there have been no reported functional differences between any of them.

Thanks rudiger, mostly just curious. I will almost certainly just go with what the dealer sells me until the warranty is over.
