It's just hard on your engine and hard on your battery. It's not like you can't do it in a jam but it's not a good habit to be in on a daily basis. Flooring the accelerator in a Prius brings the engine RPMs up to ~5500RPM and keeps it there until you let up. High-current battery assist comes into play at the same time.
I read in the manual that I should avoid full throttle acceleration, Why is this?, I know it will Kill my MPG but is there some severe damage that can occur to the HSD system if I do?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(San_Carlos_Jeff @ Mar 19 2007, 01:30 PM) </div> good to know, just wanted to make sure it wasn't any worse than other vehicles.
Ok, this thread has reached an unbearably boring conclusion. Time to kick it up a notch. If you hold your foot firmly on the brake and stomp the accelerator three times quickly, the hybrid battery will instantly and fully discharge launching lightning bolts arcing to nearby vehicle and shorting all electronics within a twenty-foot range.

Now I know what to do when I've got a jerk beside me that insists on matching my speed no matter what. There are plenty of times I could have used this "weapon" in the past. Actually, it would be better if it could be aimed at specific targets. Dave M.
