I've been thinking about selling my 2005 Prius with the HOV stickers, and wanted to know if the car is worth more with them? Is KBB a good place to check value? Should I check KBB value then add some more for the stickers since they're desired? I don't need the HOV access and want a new Prius with leather/nav etc. The one I have is a 2005 package 3, approximately 42000 miles. Opinions would be appreciated.
Two guys have posted recently seeking HOV stickers. They might be interested. You might want to post on their threads (and update your profile to include city and state.)
Your car with its HOV stickers will probably be worth more than an identical one without. The trick is to find an identical one to compare with. Unfortunately, that's nearly impossible. Options, mileage, tire wear, overall clean condition, extended warranty and other factors are what determine desirability of one used car vs. another. So look for other similar prices in your area and perhaps add a bit for the stickers. Remember, they only cost $8 in California. They're probably not something you should consider an investment that appreciates in value...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(inventor00 @ May 18 2007, 03:28 PM) </div> California, sorry. I asked for trade in values to local dealers and they ask if it has the stickers and it would be worth more. I'd like to sell it privately but don't know if I can get much more than some of the dealers are offering. One dealer offered 15500 without stickers and 16500 with them. wow what a difference. Of course, dealers are liars, heh. Anyway, if I sell it privately I could buy another Prius at likely a better price than if I trade it in. Just don't know if I should try to sell it higher than KBB or just sell it like a thousand more than say 16500. Sell for 17500 or something. Is this fantasy? Are HOV stickers really that coveted? Most of the time hybrids are stuck in HOV traffic anyhow from what I've seen. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Godiva @ May 18 2007, 04:10 PM) </div> THanks.
If it were in the L.A. area it might increase the value by several thousand. I think one article said $4,000 but I wouldn't count on that much. I would check the private selling KBB portion of Yahoo and then surf some ads for comperable cars. If you ask too much, people figure for a little more they can get a new car. But....a new car won't have stickers. That's the hook. You need to find someone who desperately craves the stickers.
