Oh man, another flawed poll. You forgot to include those of us who are so superior we don't need cars of any type to get to work.
The only time I get to be SMUG is when we stop at the gas station for lottery tickets in the EV, and I tell the wife lets get gas , then we both laugh. here are some pics of the converted vw fox I am going to sell it on ebay next project might be a vw micro bus!!! conversion [attachmentid=9009] [attachmentid=9010] [attachmentid=9011] [attachmentid=9012] [attachmentid=9013]
Guilty! Haw. That was too easy. Normally there is no answer that fits me. This one was like a glove. Next time just feel free to ask me by name. And as others have pointed out, I'm far more proud of not drivng a vehicle most days. Folks tend to get all excited about the EV, but most of my transportation miles are via bicycle - so I even try to out-smug the EV crowd. New poll!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(darelldd @ Jun 18 2007, 02:12 PM) </div> LOL - nothing personal! Of course, most of my "commuting" is by foot, so I can even out-smug the bicycle crowd if I were so inclined...
Craig, Tell us more about this Fox. What kinda range/speed does it have? How big is the motor? How much did it cost to put together (if you're willing to give that out)? Any idea what the cold weather performance is? How many Ah are those batteries? Do tell!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(hyo silver @ Jun 18 2007, 02:22 PM) </div> 30 feet? OMG! You must be winded by the time you get there. Mine is 13 feet from bed to desk chair. . . . but I could always lay in bed and answer the business line if someone had the nerve to call me before the crack of noon.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(darelldd @ Jun 18 2007, 12:12 PM) </div> Watch out there fellah! You're not the only overly-smug better-than-everyone-else EV driver around here. Dam, I love my EV!!! (I defer to bicyclists in the matter of true holiness, but since I cannot stay upright on a bicycle on a path less than 12 feet wide, it's not an option for me. On the other hand, my EV is water powered, which is second cousin to solar, and has got to count for something.)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(daniel @ Jun 18 2007, 08:42 PM) </div> Careful! There's methane in that water. Tropical dams actually produce a fair amount of the stuff. Temperate ones are not as bad. I'm not sure about run of the river hydro. My guess would be that it's got a lower methane footprint.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(daniel @ Jun 18 2007, 07:42 PM) </div> You are correct, of course. But I was annoying about it WAY before you were, so I'm pretty sure I still win. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Stev0 @ Jun 18 2007, 01:52 PM) </div> Nahh. First off, my normal commute is also by foot (down stairs and all the way around the corner to the office). And secondly, bicycling is still far more efficient than walking or running. Come on. You guys have to do better than this! I am the Smug Master! Hear me roar.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(darelldd @ Jun 18 2007, 09:58 PM) </div> Can you use a wind turbine to capture the air from your roar?

As soon as you compare it to the status quo energy source of oil, suddenly those smaller damages don't look so bad. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(efusco @ Jun 18 2007, 08:02 PM) </div> No, but I can light it with a match.

And what about all that silt build-up behind the dams??? . . . that's got to count for something too. Conservation is the best energy of all.
It's light-hearted threads like these thatmakes me wonder if I should put in my two cents. I think I'll save my two cents this time. If I save enough, I can buy the EV Fox and be smug like daniel and darell.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(darelldd @ Jun 18 2007, 07:58 PM) </div> Finally, something I can disagree with Darell about: While bicycling uses less food energy per mile of travel, walking is more environmental, due to the manufacturing costs of a bicycle and the rubber lost from the tires, which must be replaced at regular intervals.
